The 2022 Chevy Blazer lost its standard four-cylinder engine
The first significant change for 2022 is the absence of the previously standard four-cylinder engine. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder was the standard engine on every Blazer model. Now it has left the lineup entirely and is replaced by the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The 2.5-liter option being dropped also means the lowest trim levels are gone along with it.
Without the L or 1LT models, the base model Blazer is the 2LT. Moving up to the 3LT option unlocks the V6 engine, which is the most recommended by reviewers like CarAndDriver. Notably, the V6 is not standard on the 3LT model but instead needs to be added. The more powerful engine will cost an extra $500 if you wish to add it onto the 3LT or a higher trim.
The Base L and 1LT models are gone
As previously mentioned, the elimination of the bottom trims is what caused an engine deletion. The engine was pretty underpowered for a midsize SUV, and the bottom trims weren’t anything to write home about. Despite the bottom trims’ absence being insignificant, it does affect the price of the Blazer. However, it does mean the base trim is now a little more luxurious than it used to be.
2022 Chevy Blazer AWD models get a towing package
Any Blazer with all-wheel drive now comes standard with the Trailering package. This package is available for an extra fee to models with front-wheel drive. The Trailering package includes the Hitch Guidance feature, Hitch View, and heavy-duty cooling. Some of these components change based on which Blazer model you’ve chosen.
Blazer models equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 engine will not gain any increased towing capacity. However, those that have the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder go from 1,500 to 3,500 pounds. That extra 2,000 pounds is quite a significant increase, especially in an SUV of this size.
New colors and a contrasting roof
For the 2022 model year, the Chevy Blazer gains two new color options. Nitro Yellow and Blue Glow have been added and are unique enough to be worth mentioning. The two colors will surely make your Blazer stand out amongst the crowd. Nitro Yellow is only available on the RS trim level, only one below the highest Premiere trim.
Speaking of the highest trim, the Premiere trim is now available with a color-contrasting roof. Color-contrasting roofs have become more popular on various higher trims with many models. It gives vehicles, especially SUVs, a more sporty look that many people want.
How much is a 2022 Chevy Blazer?
The Chevy Blazer manages to have a wide range of price options throughout its lineup. If you want everything included, it isn’t too much more than a base model. Sometimes vehicles have a $15,000+ difference between their lowest and highest trims, but the Blazer comes at a decent value.
Starting with the 2LT trim with front-wheel drive and the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, you’ll be paying at least $34,595. It’s an affordable price for a vehicle that makes 228 hp, includes stop/start technology, and much more. Purchasing the all-wheel drive Premier model will only cost around $10,000 more than the base model.

The 2022 Chevy Blazer didn’t receive a lot of changes for the new model year. However, the changes are very significant, like dropping two trims from the lineup. The Blazer got a little more expensive but gained some more fun and powerful engines. It also added standard equipment, like the available Trailering package for every model.
