What’s Really Going on With the 2024 Ram Rampage?
At MotorBiscuit, we love busting our detective hats out, and the Ram Rampage gives us a juicy case to investigate. It’s officially ready to take Brazil by storm, but is the 2024 Ram Rampage coming to America? Does it have enough power to compete against the Ford Maverick? We’re getting to the bottom of these tiny truck things!
What engines does the 2024 Ram Rampage have?
The Brazilian 2024 Ram Rampage debuted with two different engine options. The standard 2.0-liter Multijet diesel option generates 170 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. It’s unclear if this engine meets higher emission standards in America.
However, upgrading to the Hurricane 4 or the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine provides 272 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine is already being used in America as a beefy option with the Dodge Hornet GT.
If the Ram Rampage comes to the USA, then this engine would provide plenty of muscle with the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in roughly 6.8 seconds.
The Ford Maverick has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. It can reach 60 mph in about 6.6 seconds.
But it would need a popular variant to fight the Maverick. It could borrow from the Dodge Hornet PHEV, which uses a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor and a battery pack to pump out 288 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.
The Maverick Hybrid has 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. It can’t be paired with AWD, but the Hornet PHEV features AWD.
Also, the gas-powered Ramapge can carry a payload of up to 1,653 lbs, and the Maverick can carry up to 1,564 lbs. The Maverick can tow up to 4,000 lbs, and Ram didn’t share how much the Rampage can tow.
Is the 2024 Rampage coming to America?
Reportedly the 2024 Ram Rampage USA model is in the works. We’ve already seen teaser images of the taillight with an American flag decal, and Rampage test drive sightings in America.
Plus, in March, Mike Koval showed a small truck concept to dealers which could move forward with positive feedback. It did receive tons of enthusiasm and aligns with the reports from Autos Segredos that Stellantis is working on a separate compact truck for America.
It’s related to the Rampage, and titles for it relate to the Ram 1200 and Ram Dakota. Some rumors suggest that Ram will make a mid-size truck or something smaller that’s also based on the Jeep Renegade platform.
The Rampage is being built in Brazil, but the American version could be built alongside the Dodge Hornet in Italy. Or the Belvidere plant in Illinois could be remodeled to support assembling the truck and hybrid engines in America.
How much does the Ram Rampage cost?
The 2024 Ram Rampage price starts at $50,108 and goes up to about $56,630. This is pretty expensive, especially against the affordable Ford Maverick. But prices may vary in North America, and the Maverick actually starts at $51,350 in Brazil.
Also, the American model could be larger or smaller. A larger model would have a higher price tag, but the 2024 Ford Ranger starts at $32,565. The Rampage is still very steep in comparison. But being assembled in North America could get around the chicken tax to bring prices down.
The Ram Rampage Rebel and R/T are already extremely enticing because it provides an off-roading model to fight the Maverick Tremor and street-performance model. The Maverick ST hasn’t come out yet. The PHEV and the R/T could beat the Maverick models to market.
Production of the Rampage already started, and the order banks open on June 22. So, it’s moving fast, and the American model could be here soon. It might just have a different name and more engine options. Stay tuned as we track this case for updates.
