Recently, we’ve been noticing more Mazda CX-5 models on the road. They seem to be popping up everywhere. But what is so great about the 2021 Mazda CX-5? Why are drivers flocking to this compact SUV?

Why is the 2021 Mazda CX-5 so popular?

According to a 2021 Mazda CX-5 review by AutoBlog, it’s a luxury SUV that delivers plush comfort and engaging power, without the higher price tag. You can get started in the base model Mazda CX-5 for about $26,370. This price includes the $1,100 destination fee. Also, you can add all-wheel drive for about $1,500.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 rivals options such as the Toyota RAV4 that begins around $25,950. So, it doesn’t cost much more to upgrade from non-luxury models to the luxurious Mazda CX-5. Plus, it’s still a highly functional vehicle. But there is one drawback to consider. The Mazda CX-5 lacks cargo space compared to its rivals.

How is driving the 2021 Mazda CX-5?

Generally, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 receives praise for being fun and sporty to drive. It has a 2.5-liter inline-four engine that provides 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, which is a fair amount of power.

However, according to CarIndigo, the 2020 Mazda CX-5 takes 8.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph, which is a letdown. The Rav4 and other competitors are a bit faster off the line. If you upgrade to the higher trims, you can spring for the optional 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four engine with 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.

AutoBlog achieved a fuel economy of 25 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined. This is a little lower than the competition. The 2020 Toyota Rav4 gets an EPA estimated 28 mpg in the city and up to 35 mpg on the highway.

The six-speed automatic transmission provides a sporty ride that’s spot on with its steering and throttle response. The engine torque shifts the weight on the front wheels for more grip while turning for smooth control, usually only found in sports sedans.

How is the 2021 Mazda CX-5 interior?

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 has a premium interior that’s crafted with upscale materials. The high-quality leather has French stitching to provide contrast, and there are soft-touch materials all around for a more superior touch. AutoBlog suggests that the Mazda CX-5 has a more premium feel than competitors like the Toyota RAV4.

You’ll find a new tech interface in the 2021 Mazda CX-5 with a larger infotainment center that’s easier to use. The controls also make it easier to flip through menus and songs on your playlist quickly.

There is about enough room for four adults to sit comfortably in the Mazda CX-5. There are 30.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and up to 59.6 cubic feet total. The Honda CR-V has 39.2 cubic feet of cargo room in the trunk area with up to 75.8 cubic feet total. That’s a pretty big difference.
