The Jeep lineup is jam-packed with versatile, adventure-ready vehicles. In 2020, Jeeps are still among the most capable off-roaders and are good on technology too. These vehicles can get pretty pricey, but here are the most affordable Jeeps to purchase in 2020.

2020 Jeep Compass 

Starting price: $22,280

You can think of the Compass as the entry-level Jeep. The Compass is the cheapest option under the Jeep umbrella. This 2020 SUV hasn’t earned the best reviews in the class, but it’s still a fun car. Experts at U.S. News recommend the Compass to buyers looking for a trail-rated SUV that’s more affordable than the Wrangler. 

The Compass comes with a 180-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine linked to a six-speed manual transmission. Models with front-wheel-drive have an optional six-speed automatic. If you opt for all-wheel-drive, there’s an available nine-speed automatic. The Compass’ engine is a bit lackluster, but it offers adequate power.  

On the inside, the Compass is pretty comfortable, and it can seat five. It also comes with many modern infotainment features, including a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. Although, the only advanced safety feature that’s standard is a rearview camera.

2020 Jeep Renegade

Starting price: $22,375

If you’re looking for a Jeep with a quirky sense of style, you’ll likely be more drawn to the Renegade. This subcompact is a real charmer and the best off-roader in its class; it’s pretty sporty too. But unlike some of its competitors, the Renegade isn’t incredibly fuel-efficient.

The Renegade comes with the same four-cylinder that the Compass does. That said, the Renegade’s available turbocharged 177-hp, 1.3-liter four-cylinder is more enticing. This turbo-four accelerates better than the base engine, and it’s slightly more fuel-efficient. 

The Renegade has a cute interior with good visibility. It also offers a user-friendly infotainment system and comes with a 5-inch display screen. You’ll have to upgrade for smartphone integration apps, though. 

2020 Jeep Cherokee

Starting price: $25,840

The Cherokee is the most impressive performer amongst the cheap Jeeps. It expertly handles rough terrains while still being comfortable enough for your everyday drives. The Cherokee also comes with the same base engine as the Compass and the Renegade. However, the Cherokee has more powerful options available.

You can pick from two different engines on the Cherokee. There’s a 270-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which is the most fuel-efficient option. For the best towing capacity, you’ll want to go with the 271-hp 3.2-liter V6.

As you may have heard, Jeep is focused on offering more premium options to its lineup, and the latest Cherokee is an example of that. The Cherokee has a handsome looking cabin that’s standard with cloth upholstery. There are also few options to make the Cherokee feel more upscale, including upgraded cloth, vinyl, and leather seats.

Regarding tech, the Cherokee also comes with Jeep’s modern infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. Still, not many active safety features are standard on this model either. Gadgets such as adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning are available.
