How reliable is the 2022 Toyota Tacoma?
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma doesn’t have great reliability. This is a surprise because we have known the Tacoma as a super-reliable truck for years. The 2021 Toyota Tacoma has a perfect reliability rating, so the 2022 Toyota Tacoma’s reliability rating is a huge drop. In addition, the 2020 Toyota Tacoma’s reliability rating is very good.
It appears the reliability of the Toyota Tacoma is yo-yoing a bit. In the 2019 Toyota Tacoma, the most serious issues were transmission, both minor and major. This can be an expensive problem and not one that you want to deal with unexpectedly. In addition, the drive system and fuel system are also problem areas.
The Toyota Tacoma’s reliability affects the Toyota brand
Consumer Reports says that several Toyota models offer excellent reliability. These include the Toyota Venza and the Toyota RAV4 Prime. However, vehicles such as the 2022 Toyota Tacoma caused Toyota’s overall reliability to drop. In addition to the 2022 Tacoma, the Corolla Hatchback, RAV4, and Sienna all scored less-than-stellar reliability ratings.

To determine the most and least reliable vehicles, Consumer Reports sends surveys to current owners of vehicles to find out how they’re holding up. Consumer Reports asks questions about any major repairs that have needed to be done in the last 12 months. They also ask about the severity of those problems. Then Consumer Reports evaluates those surveys. They also consider their mechanical knowledge. From these two sources, Consumer Reports assigns each vehicle a reliability rating. A vehicle must have at least two years’ worth of data to be evaluated by Consumer Reports.
Consumer Reports collects a lot of surveys to make their determination. In 2021, Consumer Reports received more than 300,000 survey results. The surveys that Consumer Reports sends are very comprehensive. Each vehicle surveyed typically has 200 to 300 survey responses, giving a good idea of how that particular model is holding up. This increases the chances that the reliability rating will be accurate.
Although the 2022 Toyota Tacoma’s reliability isn’t likely to be very good, it’s possible that Toyota will straighten out its issues, and the 2023 Toyota Tacoma will be better. If you’re looking for a reliable pickup truck, there may be better options out there.
