Since its launch back in July, the 2020 mid-engine C8 Corvette Stingray has quickly become a popular vehicle for car enthusiasts all over the world, and it hasn’t even hit the public streets yet. What’s even better is that a convertible version of the Stingray was officially revealed on the 2nd of October. Even better, according to the Mid-Engine Corvette Forum, you’ll be able to get one sooner than expected

Corvette Convertible by February?

Similar to what happens with every wildly popular vehicle, there have been rumors constantly popping up about the C8 Corvette Stingray Convertible. We are sure that many of you will be wishing the latest rumor will turn out to be true.

The rumor says that the 2020 Stingray Convertible could begin production as soon as February 10th. While the date has not been confirmed, the latest piece of news has been doing its rounds around various places, one of them being the Corvette Forums.

Several people might believe that there could be a little bit of truth behind the rumor. This is because most of the rumors that appeared on the forum before the 2020 C8 Corvette Stingrays were revealed turned out to be accurate.

In addition to that, the February 10th date seems to fit in perfectly with General Motor’s plan of increasing production. This will allow the Corvette assembly plant to add a few more options in every ordering period until the plants are fully operational.

So we could easily see the C8 Convertible added to the equation once the assembly plant starts operating more efficiently. However, it might be a bit too early to tell.

The car company has already sent a test vehicle to MotorTrend. General Motors has an embargo on MotorTrend that will last until November. This means that MotorTrend will not be releasing any information regarding the C8 until after the said date.

The 2020 Stingray already has some impressive specifications. Though the convertible typically forgoes some track worthy specs to accommodate the drop-top option, many still expect it to be an impressive performer.

Should the February 10th date be accurate, which would be only a month after the couple begins its production, then we expect to have a lot more information about the convertible C8 after its October 2nd official reveal.

UAW Strike Delays?

While there are a few encouraging factors that make the February 10th date a bit believable, there is one major development that has thrown the C8 production timeframe into doubt. This is because of the ongoing United Auto Workers strike.

The UAW represents over 150,000 workers at Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors. The union was negotiating a new contract with GM and was aggrieved by the company’s efforts of cutting labor costs and its decision to close plants in three states.

The ongoing strike began after GM did not meet UAW’s demands, and both Chrysler and Ford could face a similar outcome.

With production for the 2020 Corvette Stingray yet to begin, the strike has come at the worst timing. However, with the production rumored to begin at the Bowling Green plant in December at the earliest, with a second shift already added, there is plenty of time for the issue to be resolved.

While the ongoing UAW strike is a valid concern for those eagerly waiting for the 2020 C8 Corvette, it hasn’t slowed the rumor mill down whatsoever. With the Stingray being one of the most anticipated vehicles, the sooner consumers can get their hands on them, the better.
