Did you know that the 2021 Jeep Commander exists? When did that nameplate return? Well, the Jeep Commander hasn’t returned yet, but rumors suggest that it’s on the way. It may serve as another three-row option.

What is the 2021 Jeep Commander?

According to 2020 Lexus, the 2021 Jeep Commander may arrive later this year as another three-row Jeep option. The old Jeep Commander was in production from 2005 to 2010 before being discontinued. It served as the only three-row Jeep at the time.

However, now the massive 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Cherokee L are on the way. While the Wagoneer serves as a luxurious full-size option to rival the GMC Yukon, the Cherokee L is a mid-size option that will compete against options like the Ford Explorer.

If these rumors are true, the new Jeep Commander will serve as a more affordable mid-size option with three rows. The Commander will fill the slot between the regular Jeep Cherokee with two rows and the Jeep Grand Cherokee L.

What do we know about the Jeep Commander?

The 2021 Jeep Commander may incorporate features from the Jeep Compass and Grand Wagoneer. Rumors suggest that it will look like a smaller Wagoneer with a similar grille and headlight design while maintaining a shape similar to the Compass. But it will be longer than the Compass to incorporate the third row.

With a wheelbase that’s over 110-inches long, there should be plenty of space for families with smaller children. The third row may be cramped for adults, but it would leave more space for cargo.

We’ve also heard that there could be a 2021 Jeep Grand Commander model that features more premium materials and features such as a power liftgate, rear skylights, integrated navigation, and more.

How powerful is the Jeep Commander?

We haven’t heard much about the possible powertrain options yet, but a hybrid variant could be on the way, as one model has already been released in China. This information stacks up as Jeep plans to offer each model with a 4xe plug-in hybrid variant.

The Jeep Commander 4xe could gain the same hybrid powertrain option that the Chrysler Pacifica has. It features a V6 engine with a 16-kWh battery pack and an electric range of about 30 miles.

The 2021 Jeep Commander base model could come with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with 230 hp. But it should offer multiple powertrain options that deliver more power. Four-wheel drive probably won’t come standard. Also, the powertrains may be matched with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Again, if the rumors are true, we can speculate that the new Jeep Commander will arrive later this year. It will probably come out after the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L goes on sale in the spring.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L has a starting price of about $36,995, so the Jeep Commander is expected to be cheaper. The 2021 Kia Sorento begins at around $29,390, so this would be a competitive starting price for the Commander. Jeep has kept this information tightly under wraps so far, and we have to wait to learn more.
