Where are the Jeep badges? The 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs have plenty of badging, but none that specify the brand name. What is the deal with the Jeep Wagoneer luxury sport utility vehicles?

If you have recently stumbled upon the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and 2022 Grand Wagoneer, you probably noticed a few things about these SUVs. The Wagoneer lineup has a lot of chrome and doesn’t look like the typical Jeeps on the road right now. In fact, most people would probably have a hard time naming the brand of the Wagoneer at first glance.

On either side of the luxury SUV, the word “Wagoneer” appears. An American flag follows the badge. Same with under the back window and inside the front doors. On the standard 20-inch aluminum wheels, the wheel cap shows the Wagoneer logo. The steering wheel has the logo in the middle. The model name is plastered all over, but the brand name is hidden.

That’s because Jeep and Stellantis want the Wagoneer brand to be a “premium extension of the Jeep brand. Wagoneer will define ‘American Premium’ while delivering a unique and unprecedented customer experience,” Christian Meunier, Global President of the Jeep brand – FCA, said.

The 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are part of a Jeep sub-brand

The press release went on to say that while the Jeep brand isn’t going anywhere, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are taking a different route. “Wagoneer is unquestionably rooted in the legendary Jeep brand and its unmatched heritage of leading capability, authenticity, and freedom, and its return allows us to expand to a much more premium arena with new levels of design detail and advanced safety and technology features,” Meunier commented.

The Wagoneer brand first hit the market in 1963 with the first four-wheel-drive vehicle with an automatic transmission. By the time the 1984 version rolled around, it was the dawn of the luxury SUV. While the sub-brand took a break for a while, it is back and better than ever with these two SUVs. Buyers can opt for three rows, captain’s chairs, and various luxe finishings, including teak wood. Plus, all of the newest technology a driver and passenger could want.

There shall be no Jeep badges on these luxury SUVs

While the lack of Jeep branding might seem like an oversight at first, it was very intentional. The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are not to be confused with a Jeep Wrangler SUV.

The 2022 Wagoneer Series 1 starts at $58,995, followed by the Series II ($69,640) and Series III ($74,640). Adding 4×4 increases the price by $3,000 for all of the trim levels. The price for the new Grand Wagoneer Series I starts at $88,640. The Series II starts at $98,640. The next level up is Obsidian, breaking up the Series trims, which starts at $104,135. The Series III starts at $107,995. All of these are only available in 4×4.

The 2022 Wagoneer and 2022 Grand Wagoneer are Jeep SUVs but are also much more. With the luxury SUV market exploding the way it is, Jeep could be onto something big with this move.
