The Porsche Cayenne is a high-end SUV with the sport and practicality you want from a larger utility vehicle and the amenities and luxury you want from buying a Porsche.

To start, the Cayenne is offered in two body styles. The first body style is the standard model which has five seats total, and the other is the coupe-style which has a sportier design but only four seats.

Base model Cayenne

The base model Cayenne is a great option if you’re new to Porsche and still want to get a great SUV with a lot of amenities, but you don’t want to go for the most expensive trim package. It has a 3.0L V6 engine that is turbocharged to produce 335hp which isn’t bad for a mid-sized SUV.

Cayenne S

The Cayenne S is a more powerful Cayenne than the base model. It has a turbocharged 2.9L V6 engine with 434hp but the 100hp upgrade isn’t the only major difference you get with the Cayenne S. This trim level features a stunning panoramic sunroof and Porsche Active Suspension Management, PASM, which is offered in the base model Cayenne if you get the coupe body style. The Cayenne S also has Power Steering Plus to lowers the amount of effort the driver has to use to turn the wheel at a lower speed, which isn’t offered in either body style of the base model.

E-hybrid

The Cayenne E-hybrid is a spectacular SUV option for drivers looking for a new hybrid SUV. It pairs a 3.0L V6 traditional gasoline engine with an electric motor to produce 455hp which isn’t a huge leap from the Cayenne S in way of power but it does introduce a hybrid option to the lineup. It doesn’t have many other differences from the base model option except that it offered the PASM regardless of body style you chose.

Turbo

We see another substantial leap in horsepower with the upgrade to the next highest trim level, the Turbo trim. Here, Porsche offers us a 4.0L V8 engine giving a surprising 541hp which is part of why I think it is the best option of all of the trim levels. It has the panoramic sunroof we love from the S trim, upgraded 21-inch wheels, and stunning adaptive LED headlights. It might not be the higher trim level option but it can be optioned out to have almost any features you could want, and while you could do that with lower-trim models you wouldn’t be getting the V8 engine.

Turbo S E-hybrid

The Turbo S E-hybrid is the highest trim level available and also the most expensive, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best. It is, however, the most powerful trim level, with marrying the turbocharged V8 engine of the turbo trim with an electric motor to give us 670hp. To match the power, Porsche also gives us all of the necessary performance upgrades, including carbon-ceramic brakes and dynamic chassis control paired with torque vectoring. While it seems fun to have such a powerful SUV, you’re not likely to use most of this horsepower or speed on your typical drive, and it might make more sense to save this for a smaller, lighter sports car – and Porsche certainly has plenty of those to offer.

All of the trim packages of the Porsche Cayenne offer the beautiful styling of a high-end SUV and paired with the performance and handling of an actual sports car. In way of luxury SUVs, it’s hard to get better than a Porsche for less than $100,000 and while some of the Cayenne options push it well over that price, you can be confident in knowing you’re going to get all of the features and power you want for the price.
