If you’re in the market for a reliable minivan, the 2023 Toyota Sienna is a likely option. As one of the most popular models in its class, there’s much to like about the Sienna. It’s not very often that experts agree on anything, but especially on which version of a vehicle is the best one to buy. However, for the 2023 Toyota Sienna, experts like Edmunds and Car and Driver recommend buying two very similar trim levels.

So, which 2023 Toyota Sienna trim should you buy?

The best 2023 Toyota Sienna trims

First, the best trims to buy for the 2023 Toyota Sienna are the XLE and XSE models. The more affordable of the two is the XLE trim, which starts at $42,030.

Every Sienna uses the same hybrid powertrain with a four-cylinder engine that combines for 245 horsepower and standard front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional for every trim other than the Woodlands Edition, on which it is standard. Additionally, the XLE trim comes with keyless entry, push-button start, a power rear liftgate, a sunroof, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and much more.

However, upgrading to the XSE trim adds even more to the Sienna lineup of features. Starting only slightly higher at $44,280, the XSE trim builds on the XLE features. Highlights include black roof rails, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a 12-speaker JBL audio system. It’s worth noting that these features are also available to the XLE trim by purchasing the XLE Plus package, plus an integrated navigation system.

Edmunds recommends the Sienna XLE

If you’re searching for the best vehicle trim level, head to the experts to find out which is best. The 2023 Toyota Sienna is highlighted by its standard hybrid powertrain and features. That’s why the experts at Edmunds like one of the most affordable models available. It’s also worth noting Edmunds says its 2023 recommendation is based on its 2022 review, but the Sienna didn’t receive any changes for the new model year.

“The XLE trim is the one to get since it adds a lot of comfort and convenience features for the money. There are enough additions to make it feel much nicer than the base LE trim, and it’s also eligible for some options, including a rear entertainment system,” said Edmunds in its review.

Car and Driver like the 2023 Toyota Sienna XSE

Alternatively, Car and Driver recommends the 2023 Toyota Sienna XSE. Unfortunately, we disagree with this recommendation. The XSE trim is nearly the same as the XLE model for the Toyota minivan. It has all the same equipment but with a standard navigation system. Of course, the XSE model is around $2,000 more expensive than an XLE trim. That’s why it’s not worth paying extra for such a small number of added features.

Between the XLE and XSE trim, we’d definitely consider the XLE trim the best 2023 Toyota Sienna to buy. It’s safe, affordable, well-equipped, and uses a hybrid powertrain to get excellent gas mileage. Comparatively, the most expensive models aren’t worth paying for, including the slightly more costly XSE. Unfortunately, black roof rails and an upgraded audio system aren’t worth it to most minivan owners. Thankfully, anyone who finds value in those items is welcome to purchase the C/D recommendation.
