Many buyers of these smaller unibody SUVs are looking for something with the capability perks of a full-size SUV, without the high gas mileage. People are looking for capable and reliable vehicles. Depending upon which compact SUV has the best warranty, the choice may be affected.

Warranty coverage has a lot to do with the decision to buy a car. An unexpected out of pocket repair cost of a few grand is daunting for most. A great warranty adds that extra peace of mind and can tip the scale between top contending SUVs when it comes to the buying decision. So which one is the best?

Every warranty is different

Warrantees can cover a range of different issues. From bumper to bumper packages to tech/electronics warranties to roadside assistance. Factory warranties are not created equal, so it’s best to know which brand offers the best warranty before you decide to purchase one of their compact SUVs.

The bumper to bumper warranty covers any issues that arise in factory-installed parts, excluding only the costs of regular maintenance like oil changes and filter replacements.

The Genesis GV80 has great warranty packages across the board.

The powertrain and corrosion warranty is offered as a package. It covers engine, transmission, and drivetrain issues plus corrosion coverage specifically in the event of expensive repair costs due to rust damage or a corroding body and/or frame.

Roadside assistance warranties cover problems you may have out on the road. It’s basically a factory version of Triple A that’s covered by your warranty.

Most carmakers offer a bumper to bumper, powertrain/corrosion, as well as a roadside assistance package. They cover up to a certain amount of years or a certain number of miles. If you are a long-distance driver, you’ll probably want to opt for coverage based on the number of years rather than miles.

The best warranty of all

Warranties are offered by brand, and there is no question that Hyundai and Genesis Motors offer the best warranty packages overall. While other brands offer warranties that compete with these, the Hyundai and Genesis offer warranties at the top of the list of each different type of warranty.

The bumper to bumper warranty is offered for 5 years and 60 thousand miles from both Genesis and Hyundai. They each offer the same competitive powertrain/corrosion warranties at 10 years or 100 thousand miles and 7 years with unlimited miles respectively. Both Hyundai and Genesis offer a roadside assistance warranty for 5 years with unlimited mileage restrictions.

Which compact SUV offers the best warranty?

The Hyundai warranty will cover all of its new cars, including compact SUVs. That means the compact SUVs like the Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Kona, and Hyundai Venue are your best bet if you’re looking for a smaller SUV with a great factory warranty package.

The Genesis GV80 is a great option if you are looking for a luxury compact SUV with a great warranty. In fact, until just a few years ago, Genesis and Hyundai where part of the same motor group. Now Hyundai’s luxury division stands alone as Genesis Motors. That may be a contributing factor to why these are the two compact SUVs with the most competitive ––and similar –– warranty packages.
