Driving in snow is one of the least fun parts of the season. Winter makes for icy and slippery roads, not to mention general discomfort in the cold. Some vehicles do better than others in icy conditions, and if you live somewhere that regularly gets snow, you’ll want to know what these are. SUVs and trucks typically do well, and Jeeps are pretty popular. Yet can Jeeps handle winter driving? And if so, which Jeeps are best for snow?

Are 2022 Jeep Wranglers good in the snow?

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler may not come to mind first as a good SUV for snowy conditions, but according to Four Wheel Trends, it should. The Jeep Wrangler has a 3.6-liter V6 engine matched to an automatic transmission. The Jeep Wrangler Sport and the Wrangler Sahara both have Command-Trac four-wheel drive. This is a part-time system. There’s also an optional limited-slip rear differential, which gives these SUVs better grip in tough conditions. In addition, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon does well in the snow thanks to its 33-inch tires.

You’ll be comfortable in the Jeep Wrangler in a snowstorm thanks to its climate system. It also comes with blind-spot monitor. However, Four Wheel Trends does note that there’s no forward-collision braking or lane shift assist.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokees come with lots of safety features

If there’s one positive thing that you can say about 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokees, it’s that they are loaded with safety features. Jeep Grand Cherokees have forward collision warning, automatic braking, lane departure warning and lane-keep assist. In addition, the Grand Cherokee comes with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, and traction and stability control. Jeep Grand Cherokees have several four-wheel drive options available. The Grand Cherokee also comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability

The 2022 Jeep Cherokee Tailhawk has an advanced all-wheel drive system

2022 Jeep Cherokees don’t necessarily have the rugged, tackle-anything persona that would make you think they’d be good in the snow. However, the Cherokee Trailhawk does well in the snow. That’s because of the upgrades it has that allow it to handle rough and slippery terrain easily. One of these things is all-wheel drive, which allows the SUV to grip the road more readily. The Cherokee Trailhawk also has wider tires and more ground clearance, allowing you to navigate icy roads better.

The 2022 Jeep Renegade does well compared to other small SUVs

The 2022 Jeep Renegade is certainly a small SUV, but that shouldn’t stop you from thinking it can do well on a snowy road. The Jeep Renegade has available four-wheel drive, which you might want to consider if you live somewhere that gets snow. There is also a Cold Weather package, which offers upgraded wheels and a keyless ignition with remote start. While it doesn’t have a ton of safety features, it does come with blind-spot monitor, lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist, as well as traction control and stability control.

The takeaway is that Jeeps can do well in snow. Of course, how a Jeep does in winter is just one piece of the SUV puzzle. Safety ratings, reliability scores, and owner satisfaction should still play a role in your decision-making when it comes to buying a new vehicle. Yet if you want a new SUV, and you love Jeeps, you can rest assured that they can at least handle the snow.
