Finally, the story of the greatest pitchman that ever lived is being told for the first time. The legendary John Bronco story is coming to a movie screen near you. It chronicles his rise as the pitchman in commercials for the original Ford Bronco. After winning the 1966 Baja 500 desert race he gave a rousing victory speech that changed the world. It led to Ford naming the Bronco SUV after him and the rest is history. But then he disappeared. Who and where is John Bronco?

As the face of Ford’s Bronco, John Bronco became a Hollywood star

This documentary is one of those made-for-Hollywood stories with a cliffhanger for an ending. Ford asked him to drive their new SUV prototype. After coming to fame as the face of Ford’s Bronco he became a Hollywood star. He had his own jingle that went triple-platinum.

Soon he had a cologne named after him, breakfast cereal, video game, action figure, and other examples of his fame and fortune. When it all came crashing down he disappeared and has not been seen since. But the reason for this might be he never existed. Or did he?

Naw, he never did. But the movie does. This is a real movie with real movie stars about a fake character called John Bronco. The mockumentary is financed by Ford and came about way before the 2021 Bronco’s development was finished. Intended to build more buzz around the 2021 Bronco, Ford had no idea when this was hatched it wouldn’t be necessary. But we’re glad it was made.

Now a teaser reveals the setup for the movie

The project has been completed and now a teaser reveals the setup for the movie. The star of the mockumentary is Walter Goggins as John Bronco. Goggins has acted in numerous Quentin Tarantino movies including The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained, and HBO’s Righteous Gemstones comedy series. Also included are actress Bo Derek, Tim Meadows from SNL, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The movie is narrated by Dennis Quaid and directed by Jake Szymanski. Szymanski is an actor/writer/director known for Funny or Die, numerous SNL shorts, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and 7 Days In Hell.

There’s also a John Bronco website

An IMDB listing shows the original debut was to be March 13, which was the original date set for the Bronco launch. That was obviously pushed back for COVID-19 reasons. The movie is listed at 37 minutes. For more about the fictional pitchman, there’s also a John Bronco website.

It’s all very unlike Ford to do something like this to promo one of their products. But that’s part of the fun surrounding it. Until it debuts we’re sure there will be a gang of trailers and teasers. But the one thing you have to keep asking yourself is, “Where is John Bronco?”
