If you’ve visited the Chrysler website recently, you’ll notice only three vehicle models are available for purchase. The Chrysler Pacifica, 300, and Voyager. With only these models available, Chrysler surely must be planning an all-new lineup coming soon. Normally before a vehicle is discontinued, the automaker already has a replacement lined up. That clearly was not the case for the recent disappearing Chrysler models. So what exactly is happening with Chrysler, and why are there only 3 Chrysler models?

What happened to Chrysler?

In recent years, a great number of Chrysler vehicles have gone from its lineup without replacement. This leaves only the Pacifica and Voyager minivans, and the 300 sedan. So where have all the other vehicles gone? In 2016, Chrysler did away with the Town and Country minivan, making way for the current two in the lineup. In 2009 the Aspen SUV disappeared, so did the Ypsilon car in 2015, Crossfire in 2008, Concorde in 2004, and the 200 in 2017.

Many of Chrysler’s discontinuations were some time ago, so why haven’t they been properly replaced in the lineup? Currently, Chrysler dealers everywhere have only three models to sell, two of which are minivans. The Pacifica is the most popular vehicle in the lineup, and for good reason. It’s become one of the best options available in its segment and leads the class in multiple areas.

Is Chrysler making electric vehicles?

Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler along with a few other major automaker brands, plans to go full steam ahead into the EV space. In fact, the company says it’s targeting 40% of all sales in the United States to be low-emission vehicles by 2030. That percentage is even higher, at 70%, for Europe. That means sooner or later, Chrysler vehicles will be going electric, or at least hybrid. Could this mean an entirely new lineup of original electric vehicle models? Or maybe a re-release of well-known models but fully electric. Who knows, what we do know is Stellantis’ EV plan better kick in soon, because Chrysler doesn’t have any vehicles to sell.

General Motors has pledged to have an all-electric lineup by 2035. Chrysler’s chief design officer Ralph Gilles even drove a Chrysler-badged electric vehicle on stage during a presentation. KBB shared that the vehicle was never mentioned once during the presentation, but was very obviously a Chrysler EV. Could a fully electric Chrysler model be much closer than we think?

Chrysler vehicles that should return as EVs

There are a few Chrysler vehicles that immediately come to mind when thinking about returning fully electric variants. The first and most obvious is the 2001-2010 PT Cruiser. An EV version is a perfect opportunity to flip people’s opinions and make the PT Cruiser known for its performance and looks. A total redesign while keeping the PT Crusier charm could make this an immediate winner for the automaker. It would definitely draw attention from anyone who sees it.

The next model that should make an electric comeback is the 2007-2009 Chrysler Aspen. The short-lived SUV didn’t sell well enough to stick around but may have been timed wrong. The Aspen’s size and seating arrangements make it very desirable today, though there would be a lot of competition. Redesigning the vehicle to look more futuristic, adding increased luxury and safety, and running the whole thing with a battery could make the Aspen worth selling. Originally based on the Dodge Durango, if it came into the market after 2024 the Durango will no longer exist. Could Chrysler borrow some parts for cheaper production? We don’t know, we’re just spitballing.

Though Chrysler’s minuscule lineup leaves much to be desired, the future seems bright. The night is always darkest just before the electric vehicles are announced, or something like that. Though new gas-powered Chrysler vehicles could be on the way, we hope to see a few fully electric models join the lineup in the next few years.
