Why Does Chrysler Make Bad Cars?
It isn’t that Chrysler is a bad brand; it does not offer potential buyers very much. But with such cars in the lineup like the 300 and the Pacifica, all hope is not lost for the brand. Check out a few reasons the situation with Chrysler isn’t all bad.
What is Chrysler called now?
Chrysler is owned by Stellantis North America and sells vehicles under the Dodge, Jeep, and Ram brands. It is considered one of the “big three” manufacturers along with General Motors and Ford Motor Company. It also owns Fiat and is known as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
In other words, Dodge and Chrysler are not the same brands. Both brands live under the Fiat Chrysler name and share some similarities in vehicles.
Chrysler happens to be in a group that doesn’t necessarily perform well. Since 2016 and on, Fiat, Chrysler, Jeep have been on the bottom half of most reliability lists.
The 2016 Jeep Renegade, Ram 2500, and Chrysler 200 have helped that reliability score stay low. The 200 is no longer in production in 2021. The 2021 Renegade received a score of 37 from Consumer Reports, just above the Fiat 500x at 37.
Are Chryslers reliable cars?
According to Consumer Reports for best brands in 2021, Chrysler actually moved up a bit. The brand moved up 10 spots to the number eight spot. Buick also moved up 10 spots to number nine.
Genesis and Lincoln moved down a few spots, which shows good movement for the American brand’s reliability. Unfortunately, Fiat was the lowest ranking back in 2020. Alfa Romeo gracefully took that title for 2021.
The manufacturer currently offers the 300 sedan, Pacifica, and Voyager for 2021. Consumer Reports scored the 300 sedan a 78 out of 100. Above all, it received a score of four out of five for both the predicted reliability and owner satisfaction.
The Pacifica ranked at 68 out of 100. Similarly, it received two out of five for the predicted reliability and four out of five for owner satisfaction. The Voyager minivan has not been tested yet.
The owner satisfaction rank is a big deal because it means owners would purchase the vehicle again if given the chance.
It isn’t the end of the line yet
Back in January, Chrysler killed off the Chrysler 300 SRT8 in Australia. That model was removed from the lineup back in 2015 in the US. This was one of the more popular cars due to the engine, but it couldn’t hang with the competition.
That’s mostly the story here: Chrysler doesn’t make bad cars. Other companies make better cars. For instance, scores given to the 2021 options aren’t bad. The fact that Chrysler jumped so high from 2020 to 2021 is a good sign as well.
But if a company as large as Chrysler stops offering cars that drivers want to buy, there isn’t much else to do. However, Chrysler and Fiat could come back strong if the company digs into what drivers really want. In conclusion, reviving the SRT8 might be the start of that.
