Why Doesn’t Ram Have an Electric Truck?
If you’ve been paying attention to the truck market, you’ve likely noticed that electric pickups are starting to pop up. Pickup trucks have been extremely popular in the United States, especially in recent years. But, the automotive industry is also starting to change. EVs are starting to gain traction, and the folks that build trucks are not ignoring that. We have the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T, but one manufacturer is notably absent. There is not yet a Ram electric truck.
Does Ram have an electric truck?
If you’re hoping to get an electric truck from Ram, you are going to need to wait. Although brands like Ford have already started production of electric pickups with the F-150 Lightning, Ram has yet to enter the fight. But that does not mean the company is resting on its laurels.
According to The Verge, Ram is planning to introduce an EV. In fact, it has been teasing one for some time. Once the Lightning debuted back in 2022, an electric Ram 1500 began to show up on various social media platforms.
The Ram Revolution Concept is an electric truck
Now, it is important to note that the Ram Revolution Concept is just that, a concept car. It does not mean it is what a Ram EV will look like. But it does give us an idea about what a Ram electric truck could feature in terms of design.
Notable features include massive headlights along with an illuminated Ram logo. And, although the Revolution does not feature a beefy V8, it does still boast aggressive lines and an angry face. Both are things that truck drivers seem to love.
It is clear that Ram has its sights set on the Ford F-150 Lightning. Ram and Ford have a long history of rivalry, and the two often compete to make the best trucks. So, although Ford’s EV truck is the first to arrive, Ram has not thrown in the towel on this fight.
EV pickups are here to stay
There’s no way to get around it; electric trucks are controversial. After all, folks who drive trucks often enjoy the experience of a combustion engine. There are also things like how towing will impact the range of an EV and how the batteries will hold up in the long term.
Pickup trucks are known for being long-lasting vehicles. Because of their tough build quality, it isn’t surprising to see models that have well over 200,000 miles on the clock. Will an electric Ram truck be able to do the same? Really only time will tell. And some consumers might be reluctant to adopt EV technology in their trucks.
There is also the matter of cost. The Ford F-150 Lightning seems to get a price increase every other day. And even the work-spec model can be a little pricey. As time goes on, these vehicles will likely become more accessible. But for now, expect an EV Ram to cost more than one equipped with an internal combustion engine.
