Why Drivers Pick the Ram 1500 Over the Jeep Gladiator
People are choosing the Ram 1500 over the Jeep Gladiator for a few clear reasons. Both trucks have the same parent company, but drivers still have to choose between Ram or Jeep, and apparently, the choice is too easy.
RAM 1500 vs. Jeep Gladiator
Dodge Ram trucks have been around for decades, while Jeep has been focusing on mainly SUVs. There was a van, sports car, and the Jeep Comanche truck, but Jeep doesn’t have the truck trust that Ram has earned.
The Ram 1500 was redesigned in 2010, and the Jeep Gladiator arrived in 2020. So, despite being an older model, the 2020 Ram 1500 is still gaining more interest. This could be because the Ram 1500 better meets the needs of truck drivers.
The Ram 1500 costs less
The Ram 1500 Tradesman starts for about $32,000, and the base model Jeep Gladiator begins around $33,500. The Ram Rebel, the off-roading variant, starts around $44,000, while the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon begins around $43,000.
We know that $43,000 is a smaller figure, but when looking online, you can find the 2020 Ram 1500 models with significant discounts. Meanwhile, the Jeep Gladiator is marked up. A majority of the Rubicon models in the North Carolina area are over $50,000.
The 2020 Ram 1500 gets the job done
Many people are drawn to the Ram 1500 for its ability to perform as a work truck and daily driver. Plus, it has a V8 engine, while the Jeep Gladiator only has a V6 option.
The Ram 1500 5.7-liter HEMI V8 pumps out 395-hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. The Jeep Gladiator provides 285-hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. However, the EcoDiesel engine will be an option for the Gladiator soon.
The Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 lb while the Jeep Gladiator can only tow up to 7,650 lb. So that limits towing capabilities with the Gladiator. Also, the Ram 1500 can carry a payload of up to 2,302 lb, while the Jeep Gladiator can carry up to 1,700 lb.
Plus, the Ram 1500 offers different cab sizes and truck bed lengths to meet a variety of needs, while the Gladiator operates under a one size fits all mentality. So, you can’t pick a smaller or larger cab size.
Also, the Ram 1500 has advanced trailering tech, including an auto-leveling air suspension that lowers the body of the truck. This creates better aerodynamics to save fuel while pulling a trailer. The blind-spot detection feature also accounts for the entire length of your trailer.
The Ram 1500 is more comfortable
The Jeep Gladiator is known for having a bit of a bumpier and louder ride compared to rivals, but the Ram 1500 is the perfect daily driver. It has active noise cancellation for a quiet cab and offers a smooth ride.
As the most luxurious truck in its class, the Ram 1500 excels with superior comfort and technology, including the 12” vertical infotainment center, digital cluster display, and roomy leather seats. It may be unfair to compare the full-size Ram 1500 to the midsize Jeep Gladiator, but with the Ram, you get so much more truck for the price.
