Ferrari may have the most Formula 1 championship wins, but Mercedes has been dominating Formula 1 as of late. With powerful cars and great drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes just keeps winning. Here’s a look at why Mercedes has been so dominant recently in Formula 1.

The drivers: Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas

Every racing team needs its drivers, and Mercedes has two of the best drivers in the sport. In fact, according to The New York Times, Mercedes has scored many 1-2 finishes, which means that both of Mercedes’s drivers have finished in either first or second place. 

Hamilton is the star driver for Mercedes, and he’s won many championships. Very few Formula 1 drivers have been as skilled and as renowned as him. Mercedes were lucky to snatch Hamilton up early but of course, there’s an element of skill to it as well.

Hamilton’s teammate, Valtteri Bottas, is also a highly skilled and decorated racer. Bottas has shared the podium with Hamilton multiple times and he’s done well for himself too. Bottas isn’t the only teammate that drove with Hamilton, but he’s been with Mercedes for the last three seasons.

Having a good relationship between the two teammates is an important way that Mercedes has managed to dominate Formula 1. The two men work together in each race to not only get onto the podium, but also score the most points for their team. 

The car: Mercedes AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+

Having great drivers is one side of the equation, another is having a powerful car. Mercedes, which is a legendary German automaker, can do just that. Currently, Hamilton and Bottas are driving the Mercedes AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+.

It’s a state of the art Formula 1 car that can hit almost 1,000-hp. It’s the latest in the line of Mercedes that have helped the two men achieve total dominance of the sport. 

When it comes to high-performance vehicles, speed is an important thing, but so is reliability. According to ESPN, Ferrari’s latest Formula 1 car seems to have some serious and fundamental flaws in its design. That’s why Ferrari’s latest car has been suffering from mechanical issues as of late. On the other hand, the W10 doesn’t seem to have such flaws, and it’s been serving Hamilton and Bottas well.

Furthermore, although ESPN speculated that Mercedes would struggle with the low-speed circuit of the Monaco Grand Prix, Hamilton got first place at Monaco and Bottas ended in third place there. This type of showing just indicates that Mercedes has designed a great car and it can handle all the tracks that Formula 1 throws at it. 

The Mercedes Formula 1 crew: preparing for greatness

To round things off, Mercedes wouldn’t be as successful as it is today without its crew. From the pit crew to the engineers to the team leaders, all those people have to work hard and work well in order to ensure that Hamilton and Bottas finish strong. 

Everyone involved in the crew provides all the support and strategy that Hamilton and Bottas need in a season of Formula 1. Without them, the cars would perform worse and ultimately break down.

The design of the car is also a big way that the crew helps the team achieve victory. Mercedes is always looking to innovate and create the latest and greatest car and that’s where its engineers and designers come in. Without those people, the car wouldn’t be up to par. 

There are also the crew members that few people think about when it comes to a racer and their team. For example, a Formula 1 driver’s fitness matters a lot, and so a great team needs to have fit drivers. That’s where personal trainers and nutritionists come in and those people are also critical in supporting the team.

As the old saying goes, a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link. Mercedes has built its Formula 1 team in such a way that there are no weak links. By refusing to compromise on any aspect of racing, the team is poised to continue dominating for years to come.
