Why Is This Hennessey Mammoth Ram 1500 TRX so Slow?
Wait a second, slow and Ram 1500 TRX shouldn’t be in the same sentence. Monster trucks are supposed to be monster fast! However, the Hennessey Mammoth Ram 1500 TRX Edition does things a bit differently with a limited top speed.
The Hennessey Mammoth Ram 1500 TRX is a little slow
Hennessy Performance Engineering (HPE) might disagree with if you aren’t first, you’re last. HPE created a limited edition Mammoth 1000 package for the 2021 and 2022 Ram 1500 TRX models.
According to Mopar Insiders, the HPE performance upgrade comes with a supercharger, pulley upgrades, a high-flow exhaust, stainless-steel headers, and HPE tuning. It helps the TRX engine reach 1,012 hp and 969 lb-ft of torque.
That’s plenty of power for racing, right? Well, actually, this monster truck build is limited to a top speed of 55 mph. But the standard Ram TRX has a top speed of 118 mph with its supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine that cranks out 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.
This decision was made to avoid hefty vehicle taxes. The Mammoth is subjected to a 44.8 percent import tax due to CO2 emissions. But with a weight of over 7,800 lbs, the Mammoth 1000 barely makes it past the limit of what can be considered a commercial vehicle in Finland.
What comes with the Hennessey Mammoth 1000?
The Hennessey Mammoth Ram 1500 TRX edition is highly popular overseas. One model was listed in Finland for about $274,700. But if you buy one from HPE directly, it costs about $135,350 without the delivery fee. The standard 2022 TRX starts at about $76,780.
When the Mammoth isn’t limited to 55 mph, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.2 seconds. The standard Ram TRX can reach 60 mph in about 3.7 seconds. So despite having 310 extra hp, it’s not much faster.
The Mammoth build is one of the limited TRX Ignition Edition models. Along with the engine upgrades, it features the optional Mammoth Off-Road Stage 2 kit, which consists of a custom mammoth bumper in the front and rear, LED lights in the bumper, 20-inch Hennessey 10-spoke wheels, 37-inch off-road tires, a front leveling kit, enhanced electronic fold-out steps, Hennessey and Mammoth exterior badging, and an electronic bed cover.
You can get the Hennessey Mammoth in April. It does come with tons of upgrades, but is being limited to 55 mph worth it?
What’s the TRX Ignition Edition?
The 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition wears a unique share of bright orange with unique bedside graphics. The interior pops with citrus-colored and carbon fiber accents too. The Ignition Edition starts at $93,280 and is limited to 875 models.
It comes with the TRX Level 2 equipment package, which includes leather seats, a suede flat-bottom steering wheel, ventilated seats in both rows, and other luxurious features. It rides on 18-inch machine face black wheels.
While the Ignition Edition is nearly an extra $20,000 over the standard model, at least it can go over 55 mph. If you like that shade of nacho cheese, then it might be worth the upgrade cost. Be sure to get one before they sell out.
