Why Hasn’t Honda Discontinued the Ridgeline Pickup Truck?
The Honda Ridgeline has never been one of the best-selling mid-size trucks. But, it has done well enough that Honda has never fully discontinued it. The 2023 Honda Ridgeline is currently in its second generation. And there is honestly a lot to like about it, from a standard V6 engine to standard all-wheel drive.
Will there be a third-gen Honda Ridgeline?
Now that the new Honda Pilot is coming, it is likely that the Ridgeline truck will get a new generation in the coming years. In 2016, the Pilot SUV was all-new, and then the 2017 Ridgeline pickup marked the second generation.
The 2023 Honda Pilot is coming, and it is entirely redesigned. It will boast a new V6 engine as well as a new look. Because the Honda Ridgeline is based on the Pilot, it is likely a good indicator of what’s in store for this mid-size truck. And maybe, a new generation will breathe new life into Honda’s sole pickup.
Will the 2023 Honda Ridgeline be redesigned?
The 2023 Honda Ridgeline is pretty much the same as the 2022 Ridgeline model. And if Honda is planning to make a major update in the coming years, that makes sense. It is nice to have a unibody mid-size truck on the market. Giving folks the option to get a more comfortable ride. Although, models like the Toyota Tacoma remain supreme with the buying public.
According to Car and Driver, the Ridgeline offers an alternative to the traditional truck. It is focused on comfort and delivering some additional fuel economy. And maybe, as folks explore the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz, they will realize that a unibody truck makes more sense for their needs.
Should you buy Honda’s truck?
Ultimately, which truck you buy falls entirely on what you want to do. The 2023 Ridgeline is ideal for a number of reasons. Including its comfortable interior and unique features, like an in-bed trunk. Where the Ridgeline does fall short is its capability.
You won’t be able to tow as much, and the Ridgeline is best left off the trail. At the same time, every model comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 280 horsepower and 262 pound-foot of torque. Plus, you get the benefits of standard AWD. Something that other brands will make you pay extra for.
Are Honda Ridgelines any good?
Clearly, Honda feels like the Ridgeline is a worthy mid-size truck. And if you look at it for what it is, it does bring a lot to the table. It might not be an off-road monster or be able to tow serious weight, but it can handle up to 5,000 lbs. Honda’s truck can also haul over 1,500 lbs when properly equipped.
One the Ridgeline’s biggest problems might be its price. Even a base model will cost you nearly $40k, and that is certainly more than the competition. The 2023 Honda Ridgeline RTL might represent the best value. It starts at $41,780, but does offer a range of features.
