Why Isn’t the 2022 Chevy Silverado on This Best Truck List?
We’re shocked by a list of the best pickup trucks for 2022 because it seems like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 may have been shafted. The list focuses on new trucks, despite including options like the Ford F-150 that only had light updates. Meanwhile, the 2022 Chevy Silverado has plenty of epic upgrades.
Why isn’t the 2022 Chevy Silverado the best truck?
According to Car And Driver, the 2022 Chevy Silverado doesn’t make the cut. It didn’t land on its list of the best new pickup trucks for 2022. However, the 2022 Ford F-150 and the 2022 Ram 1500 made the list, which are the Silverado’s main rivals.
The Ram 1500 has remained relatively the same since the new generation launched back in 2019. It’s actually due for a mid-cycle refresh. However, critics love it because it has a sophisticated suspension that gives it an incredibly smooth ride.
The 2022 Ford F-150 does have updates to offer, such as the regular F-150 Raptor and the F-150 Lighting. It also had a recent mid-cycle refresh to provide a more modern feeling. Plus, it can be configured in various ways to better meet the needs of various drivers.
If you look at Car and Driver’s review, you’ll see that they feel as if the Silverado isn’t as smooth as the Ram 1500. The nicest thing it has to offer is a giant infotainment screen, and there isn’t a model that can tackle the Ram TRX or F150 Raptor.
What’s new for the 2022 Silverado?
The 2022 Chevy Silverado has a restyled front end, and the higher trim levels got a restyled interior. It features higher quality materials and a modern layout with more space and innovative storage solutions.
Plus, you get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a massive 13.4-inch infotainment screen that includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The top-spec High Country model is available with General Motors’ hands-free driving tech called Super Cruise.
The Silverado ZR2 model made its debut as the most capable off-roading Silverado ever. However, it reportedly doesn’t compare to monster trucks like the Ram 1500 TRX or Ford F-150 Raptor.
With the ZR2, you get a two-inch suspension lift, 18-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch all-terrain tires, and a specially tuned suspension with high-performance spool-valve dampers. It includes a two-speed transfer case and electronically locking differentials in the front and rear.
Skid plates protect the undercarriage, and the high-mounted steel bumper increases the approach angle to 31.8 degrees.
How capable is the 2022 Silverado?
When properly equipped, the 2022 Chevy Silverado can tow up to 13,000 lbs. This is more than the Ram 1500 can pull and comes close to the Ford F-150, which can tow up to 14,000 lbs. Also, it can carry a payload of up to 2,300 lbs.
The Silverado has four engine options, including the 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax diesel engine with 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The most powerful engine option is the 6.2-liter V8 unit with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The Silverado can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
Even though the ZR2 Bison just dropped for the 2023 Silverado, we think the 2022 model deserves a chance. It’s modern, comfortable, and capable. It even has a new off-roading trim and advanced tech.
