Everywhere we look, we see more and more stories about the Lordstown Endurance electric pickup truck. But What’s so great about Lordstown Motors? Is the 2022 Lordstown Endurance worth paying attention to?

Is the 2022 Lordstown Endurance a good truck?

Yes, the Lordstown Endurance is making waves in the automotive industry. According to Cleveland 19, it already has 100,000 fleet preorders. This all-electric pickup truck is expected to take years to fill these orders, though.

It’s unclear when this truck will be available to regular customers. However, Legislation is being introduced to allowing the direct sales of the Lordstown Endurance electric pickup truck instead of offering them through dealerships.

This is pretty exciting because it would potentially cut out the middleman to provide lower prices. Generally, dealers add a markup to the MSRP of vehicles to make a profit. After a rebate, the Endurance is expected to begin around $45,000 after rebates.

The Ford F-150 Hybrid begins at about $51,900 before markups, and the destination fee has been added. The Ford F-150 EV that’s fully electric could have a higher starting price, so the Endurance may have a really competitive price.

What can the Endurance do?

The 2022 Lordstown Endurance is supposed to be an incredibly capable truck for off-roading, and it’s already being put to the test. According to CNET, the Endurance will race in the San Felipe 290-mile desert race this April in Baja, California.

This truck will travel through grueling desert conditions but should be well equipped. The 109-kWh battery provides 250 miles of range, and the four in-hub electric motors provide 600 hp.

Lordstown Motors says the truck has 4,400 lb-ft of torque, but this number may have been multiplied by the final drive. This is how the Hummer EV produces 11,500 lb-ft of torque. However, it’s safe to expect that the Endurance will have 700 to 800 lb-ft of torque.

The Endurance will race, despite not having a finalized production model. It will have the skateboard architecture that the final pickup will have, though. As it crawls over the most challenging Baja sections, the four-wheel drive will be put to the test.

Drivers will have to take it slow because the Endurance doesn’t have a love-ravel suspension, and care will be taken to prevent braking components. Because the conditions are so rough, the charge could get depleted faster than expected, and no details have been released about how Lordstown will keep this truck charged.

What else do we know about the Endurance?

The Lordstown Endurance should be able to tow about 6,000 lb. That’s pretty weak compared to rivals. Even the Ford Ranger can tow up to 7,500 lb. According to Car and Driver, the payload capacity hasn’t been released yet.

Not much about the interior has been revealed, but the Endurance may take styling cues from the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. Tech features should include an extensive touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The safety features haven’t been revealed either. But modern features that may be standard or optional could include blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, and more. Hopefully, we will learn more toward September 2021 as the truck enters production.
