Performance is the first thing that comes to mind when most people think of the Dodge Charger. However, that’s just a bonus to many long-term owners, as they have cultivated a deeper appreciation for the model beyond what’s under the hood.

Some may say that the Dodge Charger is on it’s way out with the declining sales of sedans. Nothing could be farther from the truth for die-hard Charger fans. With its unique build and surprisingly large interior, what’s not to love about the tried-and-true Dodge vehicle?

Sure, the Charger can be classified as the older, maybe more burley older brother to the Dodge Challenger, and some may site that this makes it less appealing. However, owners have quite a lot to say about the comfort, spaciousness, and overall styling of what has become a mainstay in the Dodge lineup.

Let’s take a more in-depth look at just why the Dodge Charger has invoked such loyal owners for decades.

If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it

There’s no denying that the Dodge Charger is dated. The model was last redesigned in 2011, although Dodge has made tweaks and added new technologies since then. However, this old model is far from stale, and many would mistake it for a much more luxurious vehicle.

Consumer Reports’ review of the 2020 Dodge Charger states, “Ultimately, the Charger is not just about brawn. It packs some sophistication and offers a lot of bang for the buck. Under a luxury brand name, a sedan delivering that much content and performance would cost another $20,000 or more.”

Drivers benefit from having a sporty car that doubles as a family vehicle or an executive sedan. The Dodge Charger’s interior is simply enormous. There’s an abundance of hip room and legroom in the front. Meanwhile, the rear seats easily accommodate three adults – not too many sedans can claim that. At 16.5 cubic feet of cargo space, the Dodge Charger has one of the biggest trunks among sedans.

The Dodge Charger: Devilish design with a heavenly ride quality

Dodge knows its target clientele well. Charger owners are looking to make a statement with bold looks and powerful performance. Most other cars utilize a sleek design in an attempt to convey sophistication. The Charger bucks the trend with a muscular body and aggressive features that catch the attention of onlookers.

A Dodge Charger owner left a review on Kelley Blue Book, stating, “I didn’t buy the car for gas mileage or plowing through the snow. I bought it for the horsepower and the looks. I love to drive the car. It never gets old, and when I park it and walk away, I always have to turn back and look at it.”

This full-size sedan backs up its image with its array of powerful engines, including the 797-hp V8 on the Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye. However, many overlook the Charger’s smooth ride. The 2020 Dodge Charger’s standard eight-speed transmission is one of the best in the industry, allowing for quick, smooth shifting. Meanwhile, Consumer Reports rated its ride quality a 4/5 and its noise quality a 5/5.

New doesn’t always equal better

The Dodge Charger has garnered quite the following over the years. With its surprisingly sturdy and roomy build to its superior performance, handling, and transmission, buyers can’t deny that they are getting immense quality. Plus, its base trim is one of the most affordable full-size sedans on the market.

Is the Dodge Charger possibly the last relic standing in a time of immense change in the automotive industry? Maybe. But, it certainly has stood the test of time, and there’s no denying that the pros of owning this iconic vehicle aren’t to be ignored.
