Why the Chevrolet Colorado Is the Truck You Need to Buy
In the American car market, there are many trucks to choose from. There are also many things that drivers are looking for in a truck, but MotorTrend thinks that the Chevy Colorado is one of the best trucks that you can buy. Here’s why.
The Chevy Colorado has performance
Equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 that generates 308-hp and 275 lb-ft of torque, the Colorado is a mid-sized truck that provides its owner with a great balance of every feature someone can desire. When it’s equipped with its 2.8-liter diesel engine, it becomes a very fuel-efficient towing machine. That 2.8-liter diesel engine generates 186 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque while providing up to 20 MPG in cities and 30 MPG on highways.
The 3.6-liter V6 gets a more modest fuel economy of 18 MPG in cities and 25 MPG on highways. The standard 2.5-liter cylinder engine gets 200-hp, 191 lb-ft of torque, and a fuel economy of 20 MPG in cities and 26 MPG on highways.
Depending on your needs, any of these three engines is a great option, according to MotorTrend. The diesel provides the best fuel economy and the highest towing capacity at 7,700 lb, while the V6 provides a balance between towing and performance.
In terms of payload, the Colorado was also very good. It can hold up to 1,500 lb in its truck bed, which is more than enough for most people, according to MotorTrend. The Colorado’s payload capacity doesn’t vary too much between engine options, either, as all three can hold about the same amount of weight.
Beauty on the inside, too
Although General Motors, the parent company of Chevy, thinks that the Colorado lacks interior features, MotorTrend disagrees. MotorTrend complimented the interior of the Colorado, saying that although it’s a smaller truck, it’s not uncomfortable by any means.
The layout of every interior feature was practical and sensible, and everything was easy to reach for MotorTrend’s test driver. On top of that, MotorTrend thinks that the Colorado has one of the best infotainment suites in the market.
MotorTrend’s test driver drove in the crew cab version of the Colorado, too. The crew cab has a shorter truck bed than the extended cab trim does, but MotorTrend felt that the crew cab was good enough on the Colorado. Because the crew cab is the standard trim, it also means that owners can save money by not having to choose the extended cab option.
Price wise, because the Colorado is a mid-sized truck, it’s going to be more affordable than larger trucks. A brand-new Colorado starts at about $21,000 and the more expensive trims can double its price to about $42,000. Full-sized trucks like the Silverado can easily cost up to $50,000 for comparison.
It won Truck of the Year
This coveted prize awarded by MotorTrend was given to the Colorado in multiple years. It won in 2015 and 2016 according to MotorTrend, and that’s a competition between every truck on the market. By winning this prize, it means that MotorTrend thought that the Colorado was simply better than legendary trucks like the Ford F-150 or even the Silverado, which is Chevy’s full-sized truck.
In order to win this prize, the Colorado had to be the best in multiple areas, and as MotorTrend showed, it does just that. With that said, the Colorado isn’t a perfect truck that can do everything. MotorTrend thinks that it’s the best overall truck because it can do a lot of things well. Of course, if you need to haul anything over the limit of what the Colorado can do, then the Colorado isn’t for you.
