For years, Toyota vehicles have been known as some of the most versatile and durable vehicles on the market. Toyota gained popularity over the years due to the fact that all of its vehicles come equipped with the latest technology and safety features. They also have a high resale value.

Whether you are looking for a car, truck, or SUV, there is probably a Toyota to fit your needs. And while Toyota does seem to have a large line of vehicles to chose from, the Japanese auto giant also has a few vehicles that you can’t find in the U.S. These Toyota vehicles might not be banned for life in the United States, but for one reason or another, they aren’t (or weren’t at one time) available for purchase.

Toyota Sera

The Toyota Sera was years ahead of its time in terms of innovative design. The glass on the door elegantly flows all the way up to the roof, creating a glass rooftop, and the doors open like butterfly wings. This unique design was actually used as inspiration by the engineers of the McLaren F1 and is the reason why the F1 also has butterfly doors.

The Toyota Sera was only available in Japan from 1990 to 1995. It was definitely a nice car to look at, however, it didn’t provide much power. The car was equipped with a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine that only delivered 108 hp and 95 lb-ft of torque.

The Sera was prohibited from being sold in the United States due to its design. Because the roof was made almost completely out of glass, it was deemed too unsafe to be driven in the U.S.

Toyota Hilux

The Hilux is a compact truck that packs a lot of power. It is small enough for drivers who might live in crowded cities, yet rugged enough to navigate just about any terrain. The truck comes with a variety of engine options, including a 2-liter and 4-liter diesel engine that is capable of producing up to 235 hp.

The reason the Hilux isn’t available in the U.S. is mainly due to different import laws that were passed in the 1960s, including the Chicken Tax that makes auto companies pay a 25% tax to import light-duty trucks. The truck also does not conform to the strict emissions laws that have been put into place in the U.S.

Luckily, there is a truck that is available in the United States that is just as powerful and versatile as the Hilux. The Toyota Tacoma was specifically designed to replace the Hilux and better fit the American consumer’s needs. And because Toyota started making the Tacoma in the U.S., there are a lot fewer hurdles to getting it on the market for American consumers.

1994 Toyota Supra

The Supra is one of Toyota’s most beloved sports cars. It features a sleek design and a fast engine. It’s so popular among racing and car enthusiasts that it has even appeared in several video games and was featured in The Fast and the Furious franchise.

The Supra is known as one of the most iconic muscle cars on the market. You can still buy a Supra today. In fact, the fifth-generation Supra hit the market in 2019. However, due to extreme specifications, some of the older, foreign models never made it to the American market and that includes the 1994 Supra.

While consumers were never able to go to a dealership and buy the 1994 model, there are a few that are still being sold today. And if you happen to have a 1994 Toyota Supra, you could sell it for as much as $170,000, which is more than double the price of a brand new one.
