Will the 2024 Toyota Camry Get a New Design?
With popular models like the Toyota Prius and Toyota Crown showing off new designs, it’s easy to expect that Toyota’s flagship sedan will soon receive an overhaul. Upon looking for hints that the 2023 Toyota Camry will get a new design, information is hard to find. Looking at history, it’s safe to say that a new Camry is coming, but the timetable is unclear. Will a new Camry be coming for 2024, or further in the future? That remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure – the Toyota Camry will continue on in Toyota’s lineup for years to come.
The current Camry has been around for six years
The Camry found in showrooms today has been largely the same since 2018. That makes 2023 the sixth year of the eighth-generation mid-size sedan. With that in mind, it seems likely that a refresh is on the horizon. The current Camry model got a mid-cycle refresh in 2021, so it would stand to reason that the ninth-generation model is on the horizon. However, no information has yet been released by any sources, official or not. That means the 2024 Toyota Camry could be new. However, a lack of patent filings does muddy the waters. At this point, we believe it’s more likely that the current model will carry over for one more year.
How long did the last Camry generation last?
Before the eighth-generation Camry hit showrooms in late 2017, the previous-generation models lasted from 2011 to 2017. That’s another six-year lifecycle, pointing to the idea that the current Camry isn’t long for this world. However, it is late enough that we would typically expect to see some leaks regarding a redesigned Camry for 2024. So far no such information has come to light.
Will the 2024 Toyota Camry be a hybrid?
Currently, the Camry comes with a trio of engines, including a hybrid variant. If Toyota’s push toward electrification is to continue, we expect that the next-generation model would arrive with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a hybrid drive system akin to what is found in the current Toyota Crown.
A non-hybrid Camry would likely borrow the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine from the updated Toyota Highlander. This powerplant churns out 265 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque and matches with both front and all-wheel drive systems. That’s a good sign for the 2024 Camry models, as the all-wheel drive option is likely here to stay.
Meanwhile, the Crown offers two electric motor options, one with more power than the turbo and one with less. It’s hard to say exactly in which direction a new Camry Hybrid would go, but we think it’s safe to believe that the Hybrid MAX system will find its way into Toyota’s best-selling sedan. This combines the 2.4-liter turbo with an electric motor for a combined 340 horsepower and all-wheel drive as standard.
What will the new Camry look like?’
With no insider leaks to go on, it’s hard to say exactly what the 2024 Toyota Camry will look like. However, the redesigned Prius and all-new Crown both feature similar design language, so its safe to say the Camry will go in a similar direction.
