There is one crucial question many buyers don’t think to ask when buying a large truck like the Ford Raptor. Will it fit?

Car and Driver does a fantastic job of showing how the Ford F-150 Raptor owns the road—and pretty much anywhere else you drive it—thanks to its big all-terrain tires, lane-filling stance, and widened F-150 body.

Will a Ford Raptor Fit in My Garage?

Typically, two-car garages are 18 feet wide by 20 feet deep. With the truck’s overall length of about 18 feet, this is a serious question. One thing this may require you to do is have a yard sale or at least do a deep clean of the garage before you bring the new truck home. 

It can be done. Although, as BossRoss Motoblog shows us here. It certainly is a tight squeeze. 

Simple garage updates you can do yourself

To loosely modify a Benjamin Frankin quote, “An inch of preparation is worth a foot of space.” There are a few ways to retrofit your garage for the new arrival.

The old standby is always the tennis ball on a string method. More current methods use laser sensors like the Maxsa Park Right Battery-Powered Dual Garage Laser Park designed for two-car garages.

A little more high tech version is the adjustable ultrasonic sensor from STKR Concepts. With an adjustable six foot-to-6-inch sensor, it is good but may not give you enough clearance space for the length of the Raptor.  

There are a few other tips and tricks that can help keep your new truck looking good and keep your garage walls in one piece. One is buying a small tire chock and setting it up, so you stop precisely where you want to stop. You can get them at your local Harbor Freight for around $5.00. 

The light signature method is a fantastic low tech way of finding your sweet parking spot. David Milton shows how he does it on his Youtube channel. His approach is complete with a hitch and non-hitch light signature. 

Don’t forget your hitch! 

While the Raptor is too much truck for most people, it can tow up to 8000 pounds and carry up to 1200 pounds in the bed. If you have a trailer hitch on the back and you lower the garage door, it may not trip your sensor, but it will close right on the hitch. This could cause damage to the hitch or the door. So always remember to check your hitch at the door. 

Bottom Line: Will the Ford Raptor fit? 

Only a tape measure will tell.
