Will Ferrell Super Bowl Commercial Shows GM Plans to Beat Norway at the EV Game
General Motors (GM) hired Will Ferrell for a Super Bowl commercial that shows how GM plans to beat Norway at its own game––the electric vehicle (EV) game, that is.
This Scandinavian country in Northern Europe is the current leader per capita of electric vehicle sales. GM, however, has plans to change that. With a new ad campaign titled “Everyone In,” this U.S. based manufacturer plans to encourage the normalization of EVs in hopes of increasing the EV sales market in North America.
“Why did GM choose the Nordic country known for its gorgeous fjords and scenery? Because it’s also the world’s top-selling electric vehicle market per capita.”

What is the Will Ferrell Super Bowl commercial for?
The commercial is to demonstrate that GM is ramping up to add several EV configurations to its lineup. It’s a comedic warning to the world that––with the help of some upcoming GM models––General Motors plans to take over the EV market. That means that Norway, the current global leader in EV sales, better watch out.
“GM plans to release 30 new EVs globally by 2025.”

GM plans to implement some major changes to its vehicle lineup in the next few years. And, although it’s more than a decade since GM has launched a major ad campaign like this one, the automaker is gearing up for a major market impact. As emission regulations tighten, electric vehicles seem like the answer.
GM recently debuted its new GMC Hummer EV. This is the first GM manufactured vehicle built on the Ultium battery platform. The next model to debut with this underpinning is the Cadillac Lyriq Crossover SUV.
“No way Norway”–– GM says to the Scandinavian country in Northern Europe
Was Norway offended by this Will Ferrell Super Bowl commercial? According to CNBC, GM handled the situation delicately. The company approached Norways’s leaders to clear the air before the commercial aired.
“GM said it was very diplomatic about “crushing” Norway, alerting the country’s leaders about the light-hearted ad before releasing it. Part of the commercial was shot in Norway.”

The Will Ferrell Super Bowl commercial is one of two GM ads we should see during the game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs. While this one uses the Will Ferrell comedic graces we are used to, the other is a mystery. All we know so far is that is will feature the Cadillac Lyriq crossover EV and will feature the Edward Scissorhands neighborhood.
Does GM sell any electric vehicles yet?
GM plans to exclusively offer electric vehicles by 2035, ending production of its cars, trucks and SUVs with diesel- and gasoline-powered engines.

As of today, the Chevy Bolt is GM’s claim to EV fame. However, that’s set to change. The manufacturer will soon release the GMC Hummer EV. Then Cadillac will begin sales of the Cadillac Lyriq crossover EV. These are only the first installments in a complete upheaval.
North American GM factories plan to make the switch to EV production. The company plans to offer an entirely electric lineup by 2040. By 2035, the automaker intends to have 30 new global EV models in production.
