When muscle car enthusiasts of any age get together, a few names dominate the conversation. Sure, you have the pony cars like the Ford Mustang and classic Mopars like the Dodge Charger and Plymouth Barracuda. However, Chevrolet created some properly fantastic muscle cars, like the venerable Chevelle SS. Still, with industry shifts toward alternative energy and fuel efficiency, is there any room for a new Chevelle like the 70/SS? 

Is there going to be a new Chevy Chevelle?

Fans can celebrate; there will be a 2024 Chevy Chevelle, but not in the way you might expect or even want. The Chevelle 70/SS will be a Trans Am Worldwide custom retro build, which fans can commission in a number of colors and engine options. 

According to LSX Magazine, the new Chevelle uses a sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro as a donor car, but you might not know it at a glance. Trans Am Worldwide transforms the exterior to pay homage to the 1970 Chevelle SS with its four rounded headlamps and stacked bar taillights. Moreover, the car’s panels, from quarters to the rear bumper, create a modern Chevelle aesthetic. 

Moving inside, the new muscle car features a simplistic yet handsomely adorned interior. Retro-inspired seats and carpeting preserve its classic appeal despite modern amenities like a touchscreen infotainment system. At the center, an old-school white cue ball shifter demands that a driver row through the gears of the optional manual transmission just like a classic Chevelle SS.  

What engine will the new 70/SS have?

The new Chevelle 70/SS will pack a 450-horsepower LT1 V8. However, the naturally aspirated LT1 V8 isn’t the only powerplant in the retro-inspired model’s library. Instead, potential owners can commission Trans Am Worldwide to stick a 396 cubic-inch V8 under the hood. That engine will produce as much as 900 horsepower. 

OK, so surely that’s good enough, right? It’s a classically-styled muscle car with a drop-top and 900 horsepower courtesy of a V8 with historically accurate displacement. Not quite. Fans who hate their tires can opt for a twin-turbocharged 454 cubic-inch V8 to the tune of 1,500 horsepower. 

See? Muscle cars aren’t quite dead. That said, the starting price for one of these special builds isn’t quite at stock-Camaro levels.   

How much is the 2024 Chevy Chevelle going to cost?

If you want a 2024 Chevy Chevelle 70/SS from Trans Am Worldwide, you will have to pay to play. According to Fox News, each build starts at over $100,000. Moreover, the Chevelle builds with the 1,500-horsepower twin-turbo V8s will be limited to just 25 copies, so they’ll be gone quickly. 

What will replace the Camaro after 2024?

Unfortunately, a Chevelle won’t be the direct replacement for the Chevy Camaro, despite the Camaro being the donor for the 70/SS. Instead, the automaker will likely replace the beloved muscle car with a hybridized or electrified variant sometime after 2024.
