Will Tesla Offer Cybertruck Vinyl Wraps For Silver Haters?
Every time someone asks Tesla CEO Elon Musk about the Cybertruck something new comes out. Maybe Musk should just hold a free-for-all question and answer rally. One of the things people are curious about is what if you love the Cybertruck but hate the stainless steel look? On Twitter, he answered that question with, “You will be able to wrap it in any color or pattern.” Of course. It’s a simple, easy, and clean way to get whatever you want on your Cybertruck. Even Motorbiscuit has its own vinyl wraps ready for when it takes delivery of its Cybertruck fleet. (Just kidding).
Multiple silver Cybertrucks can get boring pretty quickly
Being cold-rolled 30X steel it is too hard to stamp shape into. That’s why it utilizes flat panels and sharp angles. Honestly, that can get boring pretty quickly. Having the versatility to change up the Cybertruck in any way only raises another question. Will this be available at the factory or will this be an individual consumer solution?
Without having to paint the Cybertruck and the costs that painting vehicles add it is a smart way to keep the price down. Without popping for materials, labor including prep, and the physical painting facilities themselves Tesla is saving a lot of money. And it is surely part of the reason why the initial advertised price of $40,000 seemed within reason.
Vinyl wrap costs for a Cybertruck would probably run around $4,000
We would imagine that the cost of getting a wrap would approach $4,000 right now. So, it’s not cheap. But it is effective and can last as long as a decade depending on how it is cared for. With the price of paint materials rising all of the time popping for a wrap is a bargain.
A company that specializes in smartphone wraps called DBrand announced it was developing skins for the Cybertruck. It was the first to announce a wrap would be coming. Individual parts of the body like the hood, doors, or tailgate can be wrapped separately by DBrands while the entire truck can be wrapped for a bit over $4,000.
Tesla just announced advanced technology for “stunning colors”
The timing of this latest news on the Cybertruck was interesting because Musk also announced through Twitter that the Giga Berlin, Shanghai, and Fremont Tesla assembly plants will all be adding new paint technology. This will make it possible to offer “more layers of stunning colors that subtly change with the curvature,” says Musk. But you can’t get the Cybertruck with those stunning colors.
The availability of the Tesla Cybertruck is to be in 2021. While we look forward to the day that happens Tesla has been known to go past availability dates with most of its models. So we’ll have to see if Elon Musk and Tesla can stick to the release it established when the Cybertruck was revealed in 2019.
Until then you can do what Motorbiscuit did and work out some graphics to better illustrate what you want your Cybertruck to look like when you take delivery. Whenever that date arrives.
