While it’s never good to taunt Mother Nature, with the 2021 Ford Bronco, I can confidently say, “Bring it on, Old Man Winter!”, After using the Ford Bronco Sasquatch in about 12 inches of snow, it seems prepared to conquer several slippery challenges. 

Is the 2021 Ford Bronco good in the snow? 

Yes, the 2021 Ford Bronco is an excellent SUV in the snow and ice. But I may have had an unfair advantage with the Ford Bronco Wildtrak Sasquatch. The Wiltrak is one of the most capable off-roading trim levels and starts at around $50,370. 

It comes standard with the Sasquatch package, which adds 35-inch mud-terrain tires, 17-inch Beadlock capable wheels, high-clearance suspension, fender flairs, and a shorter final drive ratio with electronically locking front and rear axles. Plus, it has a seven-mode terrain management system. 

The Wildtrack also comes with the Mid package that consists of dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, ambient interior lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, remote start, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert, and lane-keeping assistance. 

How does the Bronco perform in the snow? 

The 2021 Ford Bronco Wildtrack has a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 engine with 330 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. It had plenty of power to get moving up and over steep inclines. You could stop on a snow-covered hill and get moving instantly. 

On that note, you could also stop. The Bronco felt in control the entire time, even in mixes of ice, mud, and snow. You know, that slippery gunk that no one enjoys. Anyways, the brakes are smooth and confident. You can easily stop at red lights and stop signs in the snow. 

The seven terrain modes include Eco, Sport, Normal, Mud/Ruts, Slippery (for snow or ice-cover roads, Sand/Snow, Rock Crawl, and Baja. I used the Slippery mode for when the roads were partially covered in snow and felt stable. While driving over different areas of mud, sleet, and snow, the Bronco didn’t slip or have any trouble. 

The Snow/Sand mode engages the four-feel drive lock for more stability, torque, and control in areas with deep sand or snow. It came in handy on the roads with 12” of snow. It provided that extra boost to remain in control while going up and down steep inclines. It didn’t slide at all. 

I didn’t use the electronically locking differentials, but I wasn’t exactly trying to climb over any challenges and never got close to getting stuck. I did use the forward-facing camera, 360-degree camera system, and parking sensors to carefully judge my surroundings as needed.

The Bronco is warm in the winter 

If you need to safely get out in the snow, the 2021 Ford Bronco can help you do that while staying nice and toasty. Using the remote start function fires the Bronco up and gets things heating. 

The auto-climate control was effective at quickly warming the cabin up in temperatures below freezing. I had to turn the climate control down on the driver’s side while my passenger had the heat blasting. We both found the perfect temperatures. 

Plus, the heated steering wheel is excellent for heating up icy fingers. Also, the heated seats warm up very quickly. By the time we got into the warm Ford Bronco, the windshield defroster had already cleared the windows. 

Driving in the snow takes total concentration, and the Ford Bronco helps to keep you safe. I triggered the Drowsy Driver Warning while going down a mountain. It suggested that I get some coffee or take a nap, so I did take a break. 

Generally, in lower parts of North Carolina, you prepare to stay inside for a few days when a blizzard comes. A blizzard for the south could be half an inch, so getting 12 inches was WILD. But the Ford Bronco Wildtrak proved to be confident and in control, making it easy to get out if needed.
