The story goes that Kevin Costner, Academy Award winner and star of the hit TV series Yellowstone, decided he needed a truck. Costner didn’t just want any truck. He wanted a truck that is versatile and works hard.

He went to Toyota directly to tell them his plans for creating a custom-built Toyota Tundra pickup truck. Toyota happily helped facilitate the request. Costner connected with Complete Customs from Texas for the build. Plus, Toyota provided whatever suitable factory upgrades that were available.

Keven Costner was clear about what the truck needed to be. Hard work and outdoor adventure are the name of the game. Yellowstone’s Costner and his family love the outdoors. Fishing, boating, ranching, and everything in between are a part of the lifestyle. He knew that his wife and three children also had to love the Toyota Tundra pickup truck build. If they didn’t, the custom-built Tundra would be a failure.

Complete Customs overland truck

Kevin Costner needed to use the truck on his Colorado ranch and on set in Wyoming, Montana, and various other wild regions for the filming of the Yellowstone TV show. Toyota agreed to the build, however, the carmaker requested that Costner do a short segment about his new truck. The video below shows the Toyota video of the adventurous actor commenting on his custom-built Toyota Tundra pickup truck.

So, he partnered with Toyota and Complete Customs to create his custom-built Toyota Tundra pickup truck. Here’s the run down. First, we see a 4.5 inch BDS suspension lift. This give the Toyota truck enough height to fit 35 inch Nitto all-terrain tires. There is a custom bumper fitted on both the front and the rear. Of course, there is also a custom made sidestep. How else are the star of the Yellowstone TV show and his supposed to get up into this beast?

Moving to the rear, you’ll find a heavy-duty spare tire mount fitted with multi-use fluid tanks. Inside the covered pickup bed there is a decked drawer system for storage, a sliding fridge and freezer, and a padded sleeping area. Up top, you’ll find a custom roof rack. This is where Kevin Costner keeps his boats and other gear on his adventures.

Kevin Costner, unlike his character John Dutton from the Yellowstone TV show, chose a Toyota truck.
