When it comes to buying exotic cars or supercars, they are typically more expensive than the average person can justify buying, but there is a way to get exotic cars for an affordable price, for just the cost of repairs and elbow grease. That’s right, you can buy your dream Lamborghini, you might just have to buy it a little wrecked first, or even with a branded title.

Buying an exotic with a branded title

A branded title on an average car, like a Toyota Camry, would probably be a deterrent, but it can be the door into the world of exotic cars for many potential buyers.

A branded title can be present for a number of reasons, some worse than others, but no matter what the reason, it can drastically decrease the car’s overall value. While this isn’t great for resale, it does make the cars more affordable.

You can buy an already rebuilt exotic that has been professionally repaired and inspected and only carries a branded title. This can mean buying your dream exotic for as much as 85% of a discount price.

You can also buy a wrecked exotic car with a salvage title, and the difference between that and a rebuilt title is important. In order to register a car with a salvaged title, there is a process you must go through to ensure your car is repaired correctly and safe to drive. This differs from a rebuilt title because a rebuilt title car has already been through this process and can be registered immediately.

Buying a wrecked exotic

Before you click off the page, buying a wrecked exotic doesn’t have to be as scary as it sounds at first. It also doesn’t have to be as costly, and not all the repairs have to be incredibly in-depth.

Depending on the amount of damage, buying a wrecked exotic is still an option for many people, and if you are friends with a local mechanic and body shop you can often get the work done for a fraction of the cost of what it would be to buy the car at full-priced.

We’ve had this experience several times, and while it’s always a bit of a gamble, the potential reward is sometimes worth the risk. For us, we drove several hours away to buy a totaled BMW I8. After inspection, we noticed that the mechanical components of the car were in good shape, and it just needed some bodywork that was mostly replacements, like front bumper and headlights.

The risk that we took here is that when you wreck a BMW, a certain series of events occur to protect the occupants of the car and the car itself. When this happens, you are unable to start the engine, and we had to have a BMW tech reset the computer and the safeguards after we had purchased it.
