Lexus is one of the best luxury car brands on the market today, and it makes cars that its owners will love. But, while Lexus SUVs are some of the best on the market, the same can’t be said for its sedans. Here’s a look at the two Lexus sedans that just aren’t that great. 

The 2020 Lexus IS could be better

U.S. News compiled a list of the best and worst small luxury sedans on the market. After trying out 13 different cars, U.S. News said that the Lexus IS was one of the worst cars in its class. It was tied with the Infiniti Q50 for 10th place, and overall, it scored a 7.5 out of 10. This might seem like a decent score, but remember, the IS is a luxury car that customers are paying at least $38,000 for. It could be better than what it is. 

In its review of the 2020 Lexus IS, U.S. News said that it was a small and outdated looking car. With less than 11 cubic feet of trunk space, U.S. News said that it has one of the smallest trunks in its class. Plus, while it’s loaded with a lot of standard smart features, U.S. News thought that they were confusing to use. 

And, despite having three powerful engine options that provide a smooth and comfortable ride, they just aren’t very fuel-efficient. The most fuel-efficient engine is its standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It gets 241 hp, but it only gets 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on highways.

The 2020 Lexus RC is even worse

Right below the IS on U.S. News’ list is the Lexus RC, which came in at 12th place with an overall score of 7.4 out of 10. The RC is actually the second-worst car on the list, and only the Acura ILX is worse. 

The RC has similar issues that the IS has. In its review of the car, U.S. News said that the RC has cramped seats and small trunk space. In fact, the RC actually has slightly less trunk space than the IS has as it only has 10.4 cu. ft. of trunk space. And, despite having similar standard smart features, U.S. News thought that the RC’s infotainment system was just as confusing to use as the infotainment system on the IS was. 

The RC also has the same standard engine as the IS, and as a result, it suffers from the same fuel efficiency problem. But, unlike the IS, U.S. News thought that the engine options on the RC generally gave it an “underwhelming performance.” That said, Lexus does offer a 5.0-liter V8 that gets 472 hp on the RC. This option isn’t available in the IS.

Another difference between the RC and the IS is the fact that the RC is more expensive. The RC starts at $41,000, and some versions can cost up to about $97,000. 

There are far better options than these models

At the top of U.S. News’ list is none other than BMW. The BMW 2 Series is tied for first place with an overall score of 8.7 out of 10. It earned its spot by just being a great car overall. Not only is it relatively fuel-efficient and powerful, but it’s also somewhat affordable since it starts at about $35,000.

The other car that was tied for first place with an overall score of 8.7 out of 10 was the Genesis G70. Like the 2 Series, the G70 is also a powerful, fuel-efficient car that doesn’t break the bank. The G70 also starts at about $35,000.
