You Can Still Buy These 2019 Chevy Silverado Trucks Brand New
There are over 4,000 2019 and 2020 brand new Chevy Silverado trucks languishing at dealerships. The catch is that they are Medium Duty trucks. Of these, around 1,000 are 2019 MD models and the rest are from 2020. And the 2019 MD Silverado trucks were all-new so these aren’t earlier-gen trucks.
The 2019 Silverado MDs were slow to roll out
Interestingly, sales of 2020 MDs increased by 50%, but there is a caveat to that as well. The 2019 models were slow to roll out so they were in limited supply. Once 2020 MD production began Chevy was able to increase output to meet demand. About 5,000 MDs were made in 2019 and around 7,500 hit dealership lots in 2020.
Production of light, medium, and heavy-duty Chevy Silverado trucks came to 575,600 in total. So you can see that Medium-Duty Silverado trucks are a rather rare model and only a small percentage of Silverado production. Who knew? We would have guessed GM made mid-five figures production yearly.
Three versions and two bodies of MDs are currently made. There are regular and crew-cab models, and 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD weight capacity versions. The 6500HD is the top Magilla. Trim levels are either 1WT or 1LT, with 1LT being the upgrade. None of the MDs come with a bed of any kind. These specialized bodies are expected to be made locally as has been the case for decades. There are no engine choices; the 6.6-liter V8 L5D Duramax diesel is it. That gives you 350 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque.
Combined Silverado production is the best-selling product GM makes
The combined production of Silverado trucks, both Chevy and GMC, is the best-selling product that GM makes. It accounts for 34% of Chevy sales and almost a quarter of all GM yearly sales. That’s huge. Combined Chevy and GMC outsold Ford’s F-Series trucks, though the F-150 is still considered the best-selling vehicle in the US.
We’ve seen conversions of GMC Top Kicks and heavy-duty trucks with pickup beds added to them. They have quite a presence because they look so much larger than the half-ton trucks they’re patterned after. You could consider doing the same to one of these MDs but the cost and time would probably negate any savings you may have because of being old stock.
Still, they’re stylish trucks and look unique with their tilt front ends and large tires and wheels. And again, we’re surprised that they are made in such limited numbers seeing as how just about every construction site and rental yard has a few MDs floating around.
