You Could Have Bought One of Eddie Van Halen’s Cars
This week many of us have spent a lot of time remembering a rock legend, Eddie Van Halen. Famous for his music, many older car enthusiasts could probably remember jamming out to Van Halen in their classic muscle cars and enjoying the wind in your hair. With the passing of Eddie Van Halen this past week, we find ourselves feeling a little bit down, but just like our fellow car enthusiast and rock star, we can take some joy in cars — and you can buy some of his collection at auction.
He was a Chevy fan
Eddie Van Halen had quite an extensive collection of vehicles, but there was one brand that founds its way into his garage more than any other: Chevy. He had several Chevy vehicles over the year, including his custom Chevy Nova and Chevy “Van Hauler” pickup trucks — one of which was offered as a prize for a competition. As many car enthusiasts can understand, he traded around quite a bit during his life, and that led to more of a few of them ending up at auction.
A custom pickup of your dreams
The 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck at the Barrett Jackson auction is one of a handful of trucks customized for the famous rocker. This one, known as the Boyd Hauler, was designed by artist Chip Foose and officially created by Hot Rods by Boyd. The pinstriping was part of what made the car so iconic and it was last sold with an electric guitar signed by Eddie Van Halen himself.
Not just a pretty face
The outside design of the Boyd Hauler made this pickup truck resemble Eddie Van Halen’s electric guitar, but that wasn’t the only impressive thing about this custom car. It also had a pretty impressive engine swap. In place of the original motor was the 5.7-liter V8 engine taken from the brand’s Corvette. Along with a lowered suspension, this pickup truck is as good looking as it is fun to drive.
Now that the music icon is passed, these collector cars will likely increase in value. Chances are you will find another one of his vehicles up for auction eventually, and if you really keep your eye out then you too can buy one of Eddie Van Halen’s cars.
