The iconic Dodge Durango will only the latest in the FCA’s long list to get a new, supercharged version. But you’ll want to get your hands on it quick before it’s gone for good.

The limited-run Dodge Durango you won’t want to miss

According to MotorTrend, the new 2021 Dodge Durango debuted with plans for a moderate refresh, but Dodge had another trick up its sleeve. In addition to getting a refresh for the new model year, Dodge announced that the 2021 Durango would be available in a new model: the SRT Hellcat. Donning the Hellcat nameplate automatically turns the 2021 Durango into a powerhouse, but it won’t be around for long.

The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat will only be available for the 2021 model year, “with limited availability simply due to its extra-short production run.” The Hellcat version of the Dodge Durango is available by order only, which means you won’t see any at dealerships. Dodge recently opened its order books for the limited-run 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat on November 6th, 2020, with models expected to begin shipping out to owners in early 2021.

The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat: the most powerful Durango yet

Another limited-edition vehicle may not seem that exciting, but the only-available-for-a-year 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat isn’t something you’ll want to pass up. According to Dodge, the 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat is “the fastest and most powerful Durango to date,” spearheading “a new era of muscle.” The large Durango Hellcat SUV is doing more than hauling families, offering more horsepower than any other SUV, ever.

The heart of the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is a supercharged, 6.2-liter V8 engine, making an astonishing 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. The V8’s 2.38-liter supercharger provides a boost of 11.6 PSI and a maximum speed of 14,600 RPM. This power pushes the Durango to a mind-blowing top speed of 180 miles per hour. 

Power is nothing without the remaining parts of the formula for perfect performance, which the Durango Hellcat seems to master. Dodge claims the 2021 Durango Hellcat can use its potent engine to reach 60 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds, breaking the brand’s own records. Its 11.5-second quarter-mile time is equally impressive. Getting off the line is perfected by managing torque with launch control and launch assist features.

This exceptional power means the Durango Hellcat is stronger and more capable. In fact, the 2021 Dodge Durango Hellcat has the ability to “haul over 1.5 times its own weight,” with a best-in-class towing capacity of 8,700 lbs.

How the limited-edition model puts most other muscle cars to shame

According to U.S. News, the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat comes with a starting price of around $81,000. This seems like a shocking price tag for the Durango, which without the Hellcat moniker, has a standard base price of less than $32,000. But considering the Durango Hellcat’s horsepower and performance specs, $80,000 is a true value. Many luxury SUVs cost around the same, without nearly as much power.

In fact, many of today’s SUVs regarded with the highest horsepower, like the BMW X5, cost substantially more ($115,000) for less horsepower (617 hp). The most comparable SUV to the Durango Hellcat is the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, which makes 707 hp, but costs $86,700. As it turns out, if you have $80,000 to spend, the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat could give you the most power, for the best money. But act quickly before it’s gone for good.
