You May Want to Hold Off on Buying a New Luxury Car
Buying a new luxury car is almost always tempting. However, there are some models coming soon that could sway you from making the auto purchase you’ve been thinking about. They will come as hybrid, electric, and gas models. In fact, some of these luxury cars and SUVs of the near future may get you excited enough to keep you from buying a new car––yet.
Car and Driver complied a list of some of the coolest cars that will soon hit the market. If you think what is available now, wait until you see the 2021-2025 model year cars on this list. While no car is perfect, these cars might at least convince buyers to wait a year or so before buying a new vehicle.
“These are the vehicles that will matter, regardless of how many boring crossovers automakers puke out. These are worth the wait.”
Car and Driver
Alf Romeo
The 2021 Alfa Romeo GTV and Alfa Romeo Tonale, are two coming luxury cars. Car and Driver remarks that “it’s not difficult to love Alfa Romeos Giulia Quadrifoglio.” It’s fun to drive––enough fun, perhaps, to forget about its shabby reliability. We will see the GTV name make a comeback and the addition of some powerful electrification.
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Tonale will stand out among other luxury crossovers. This particular luxury subcompact crossover is the brand’s first-ever hybrid model. It will also start reasonably under $40,000.
Aston Martin
The upcoming 2024 Aston Martin Vanquish has big plans to compete with the likes of the Ferrari F8 and the McLaren 720S and 765LT. We first saw the 2024 Vanquish as a concept car at the 2019 Geneva auto show. This mid-engine supercharger is likely to start over $300,000––when it finally materializes.
Audi
For 2021 Audi brings us a couple of new Audi e-tron models. According to Car and Driver, the e-tron GT challenges the Tesla Model S head on. Audi projects a hopeful 250 miles of range and close to 600 horsepower. There is one electric motor per axle in the new Audi etron’s design.
The 2021 Audi Q4 e-tron will introduce itself as a crossover competitor for all. Not only smaller but also cheaper than the e-tron and e-tron Sportback, the 2021 Q4 e-tron debuted as a concept in Geneva in 2019. It’s set to be the fourth electric option for Audi shoppers buying a new luxury car.
BMW
The famed German automaker plans to release both a 2021 BMW M3/M4 as well as a 2024 BMW i8 M. The i8 M follows the luxury brand’s i8 halo plug-in hybrid. The official name for this i8 M is not released, so we’ve adopted the same “i8 M” nickname for it as the folks over at Car and Driver.
The 2021 BMW M3/M4 model are the 4-door and 2-door examples of BMW’s freshest 3-series. We are betting on this model continuing its steady increase in performance standards. This new one brings more power to the table for a more exhilarating experience.
Cadillac
Cadillac is bringing out the 2021 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. Car and Driver writes that this one “promises to be one of the hottest and most track-ready sports sedans on the market.” Intended to compete with the hardcore AMG, Audi RS, and M-segment types that we see across the luxury division. As such, buying a luxury car that goes really fast will be a more difficult decision.
Ferrari
We knew it would happen eventually. Ferrari is, at last, making its mark on the SUV scene. The 2022 Ferrari Purosangue SUV approaches. It’s bound to be sleek and fast, as it’s currently under the nomer of “Purosangue,” which translates to “thoroughbred.” We will see this one compete with other high-end luxury SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, and the Lamborghini Urus.
Jaguar Land Rover
The 2021 Jaguar XJ and the 2023 Land Rover Defender 80 are coming onto the scene for anyone thinking about buying a luxury car or SUV. The XJ will replace the current 4-dour sedan with an all-electric version that gets about a 300 mile range. The 2023 Defender 80 is a mini Defender. However, we may not see it make its way across the pond to the US market.
Lexus
The 2022 Lexus LQ plans to top out the Lexus lineup as its most modern crossover SUV. The ultra-luxury Lexus LQ should give the brand a bit of the leg up it needs. It will share architecture as well as performance options with the Lexus LS sedan.
Maserati
The 2021 Maserati MC20 is a midi Maserati. It won’t hold the insane market value of the MC12. In fact, it shows a bit of a brand shift, which Car and Driver reports Maserati needs in order to stay afloat among the competition.
Mercedes
We should expect this new Mercedes offering to “reconnect with its past,” in reference to Mercedes release of the “clunky” Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. A more attractive and performance-oriented convertible will reveal itself in the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL-Class. Additionally, the soft top returns for this model.
Porsche
If you’re thinking about buying a new luxury car, you may want to wait for the 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS. It’s set to dominate a track. Oh, and start well into the six figures at $130,000.
Volkswagen
The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 is a new electric VW. It’s one of 50 set to debut over the next few years. In order to maintain a position in the ever-evolving and never diminishing in popularity crossover SUV category, this compact crossover releases in hopes that it will get the ball rolling in terms of Volkswagen’s impending surge of electric vehicle sales.
