While the 2021 Jeep Compass is a Jeep, it’s definitely not the best Jeep out there. The same can be said when comparing the Jeep Compass to the compact SUV segment. But what is it that’s holding this Jeep back? As it turns out, kind of a lot. The 2021 Jeep Compass is overpriced, not very fuel-efficient, and, all in all, is just an SUV to be avoided.

The 2021 Jeep Compass doesn’t have much going for it

According to Car and Driver, the 2021 Jeep Compass is one of the least desirable options among its segment. While it might have the looks of a Jeep, it’s not very refined and isn’t quite as capable as other Jeep models. It also boasts pretty average fuel economy ratings and is considered more expensive than its rivals. That’s not at all either.

When it comes to actually driving the 2021 Jeep Compass? Car and Driver reports that its engine is pretty “lethargic, and the optional nine-speed automatic transmission is slow to execute shifts.” Consumer Reports added that it suffers from “slow acceleration, with delayed downshifts and a lackadaisical response.”

Fortunately, its interior isn’t all that bad. According to Consumer Reports, its infotainment system is “clear, easy to reach, and responsive.” Car and Driver added that its interior is both comfortable and spacious enough for adult passengers. Though, it did mention that the materials used in its interior are average at best, which isn’t exactly a glowing recommendation.

The 2021 Jeep Compass isn’t what we’d call reliable either

This particular Jeep struggles when it comes to reliability ratings too. According to Consumer Reports’ data, this year’s new Jeep Compass has earned itself a two out of five predicted reliability rating. Though, that shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Based on Consumer Reports’ reliability ratings, the Jeep Compass has struggled to be a reliable option for quite some time. U.S. News & World Report also gave it a predicted reliability rating of 2.5 out of five, which makes for a pretty low score.

Consumer Reports predicts that those who do buy this year’s Compass won’t be very happy with it either. In fact, Consumer Reports’ data predicts that only 48% of Jeep Compass buyers would purchase the vehicle again. Pair that with its low reliability ratings, lackadaisical interior, and average fuel economy ratings, and it’s pretty obvious that you’d be better off avoiding this Jeep altogether. 

Fortunately, there are better options out there

Fortunately, the Jeep Compass isn’t the only option in its segment. If you’re after a fuel-efficient SUV that’s enjoyable to drive, Car and Driver recommends checking out the Mazda CX-5 or the Honda CR-V. And if you’re hoping to hit the trails? According to Car and Driver, you’d be better off with a Jeep Cherokee than the 2021 Jeep Compass.

Those aren’t the only other options either. The Jeep Compass also competes with vehicles like the Volkswagen Tiguan, Toyota RAV4, and the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. So, if you’ve got your heart set on a compact SUV and are ready to steer clear of the 2021 Jeep Compass, you can do so with confidence knowing that there are better options out there.
