It’s common for many people to think that the General Motors Company (GMC) owns Chevrolet (Chevy) but that isn’t the case. In actuality, General Motors (GM) owns both automakers. For this reason, there have always been overlapping similarities between the two brands.

These similarities started showing up in the ’20s when GMC and Chevy built similar variants of the same truck platform. The only things that have always been different about the GMC and Chevy trucks are the nameplates, grilles, and engines. But when it comes to quality, they’re fairly equal in terms of quality.

Both GMC and Chevy have been around for well over 100 years. This means GMC and Chevy have over a century of automaking experience under their belt. When it comes to GMC and Chevy trucks, they have always been considered one of America’s best workhorses.

However, according to a book entitled American Light Trucks and Utility Vehicles, 1967-1989: Every Model, Year by Year, GMC has always worked harder to distinguish itself from Chevy. In 1989, GMC did just that by proving that work trucks can be luxurious.

Over the past decade, GMC and Chevy have won hundreds of awards from numerous organizations. Models ranging from subcompact cars to full-size pickup trucks have been praised for their quality in some shape, form, or fashion.

Some awards for Chevy include Best Resale Value, the Best Buy Award, and 5 Year Cost To Own Award. And these three awards were given to multiple Chevy pickup truck models. GMC is among the top six award-winning brands as well.

CarGurus gives GMC and Chevy several used car awards

The online automotive marketplace CarGurus announced on July 3 its 2020 Best Used Car Awards. The GMC Sierra 1500 was awarded for model years 2014 through 2018; the GMC Canyon was awarded for model years 2015 through 2021; the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was awarded for model years 2014 through 2018; the Chevrolet Colorado was awarded for model years 2015 through 2021.

CarGurus was founded in 2006. It’s considered by many to be one of the top global online automotive marketplaces in the world. Slightly similar to AutoTrader, it connects buyers and sellers of new and used cars.

According to its website, it uses “proprietary technology, search algorithms, and data analytics to bring trust and transparency to the automotive search experience and help users find great deals from top-rated dealers.”

Some of the biggest pros of CarGurus winning models

Some things that make these great truck models are how sturdy they were built. Other things include the Sierra 1500 offering one of the most spacious crew cabs on the market. It features a strong pickup truck design while offering comfort and convenience.

Despite its luxurious feel, it’s great for helping workers get the job done. With a robust frame and great gas mileage both in the city and on the highway, the Sierra 1500 is economical for both companies and regular consumers alike.

When it comes to the GMC Canyon, it offers numerous reasons why it should be given good consideration. Its strong V6 engine delivers up to 25 miles (40.23 km) per gallon at regular highway speeds. Its powerful V6 produces 308 horsepower and about 270 pounds (0.12 ton)-feet of torque, which means a lot of towing power.

The Chevrolet Colorado isn’t anything to scoff at either. The 2019 model is reported to be able to reach 0 to 60 in approximately six seconds. Not only that but it can also tow up to 7,500 pounds (3.4 ton) and haul around 1,500 pounds (0.68 ton) in its bed. It features a surprisingly steady suspension as well. So, whether you’re driving through curves or hauling a heavy load, you can feel safe behind the wheel.
