Once upon a time, Cadillac was the auto brand that catered to the rich and the famous. Then came Lamborghini, Porsche, and BMW. Cadillac lost a lot of its core base, and things weren’t looking good for the American automaker. Now the tides are turning once again, and Cadillac is making a splash with the Escalade.

It’s got both a gas and diesel-powered engine, which attracts quite a large range of people. The real question is which will you choose, since price isn’t an issue for either model?

The Cadillac Escalade has some awesome updates

The luxury SUV segment is hotter than ever, and being able to gain any positive attention means breaking away from the tried and true. Cadillac hasn’t exactly excelled in that department in recent years, but finally managed to do so with the 2021 Escalade. So how did Cadillac manage to upstage the competition? It took a long hard look at its touch screens.

In a world where consumers get excited about a 10-inch screen, Cadillac has installed a 38-inch screen. Well, that might be a little deceptive. It’s actually three screens. There’s a 7.2-inch screen, a 14.2, and a 16.9-inch screen. All three curve, which brings an entirely new viewing experience.

If that’s not cool enough, Cadillac is introducing Super Cruise on the 2021 Escalade. This is a semi-autonomous driving system that will work across 200,000 miles of mapping. This will not allow drivers to lose focus while cruising down the highway, but it does allow some more hands-free driving experience.

The interior is just as cushiony as can be expected from a luxury SUV, and is comfortable to boot. It can sit up to eight, making it great for family outings or hanging out with friends. 

Gas is the go to for a lot of people

Given that there are two choices of engines, and both start at $87,290, choosing is not going to be easy. Both have their pros and both have their cons. The choice really depends on what you want to do with your Escalade.

The gasoline-powered V-8 produces 420 hp, as compared to the diesel engine which only produces 277 hp. This gives the gas-powered Escalade a throaty growl that Motor Trend was in awe of. 

The downside is that the gas mileage isn’t anything to brag about. It gets an estimated 15 city and 20 highway with rear-wheel drive and 14 city, 19 highway with four-wheel drive.

The diesel has it’s own set of perks

This makes the choice a little easier for drivers. Choosing the diesel will save money at the pumps. Of course, those who are considering buying an Escalade probably aren’t that concerned about gas prices.

There are some rumors that an electric Escalade is in the works. In fact, it was supposed to be available for the 2021 model, but that clearly didn’t happen. While we’re waiting for the electric version to make its appearance, the diesel is probably a better bet for consumers. That being said, the gasoline-powered engine is pretty cool as well, so there’s really no wrong answer for this one.
