If you’re looking for a luxury SUV to transport your family, you likely have plenty of things you need to haul around periodically. In that case, cargo space should be on your list of must-haves. CARFAX took a look at 2020 luxury SUVs to make the decision easier for you.

To determine which ones have the most cargo space, CARFAX compared the amount of space available with both the second-row and third-row (if there is one) folded down. Here’s a look at a few of the options with the most cargo room.

2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV

With both the second and third rows folded down, the 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV comes in with 120.9 cubic storage space feet. The ESV is the extended-wheelbase model of the Escalade and is about 21 inches longer than the standard version. That version has 94.2 cubic feet and costs several thousand dollars less. In addition to the extra cargo room, the ESV also has more room for passengers in the third row.

While it may have the most room, CARFAX felt the Escalade isn’t as “dynamically polished” as the Lincoln Navigator L. It has a 6.2-liter V8 engine, generating 420 hp, that is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It’s available in either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

U.S. News & World Report ranked the Escalade sixth out of nine large luxury SUVs. Consumer Reports rated it seventh out of 10. The Escalade has a starting price of $75,195, while the ESV starts at $78,195.

2020 Lincoln Navigator L

The Lincoln Navigator L comes in just behind the Cadillac Escalade ESV with 120.3 cubic feet of cargo room when the second and third rows are folded down. The Navigator L is the stretch version, but the regular Navigator has 103 cubic feet behind the driver.

CARFAX said the Navigator has “nimble steering and a well-controlled ride.” It’s powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, producing 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. It’s matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission and is available in either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

This was U.S. News & World Report’s top-rated luxury large SUV, but Consumer Reports ranked it sixth. The starting price for the 2020 Lincoln Navigator is $76,185. Switching to the 2020 Lincoln Navigator Reserve L increases the starting price to $84,925.

2020 BMW X7

The 2020 BMW X7 comes in third with 90.4 cubic feet of storage room when the second and third rows are folded down. It’s smaller than both the standard and stretch versions of the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator.

CARFAX felt the driving experience of the X7 was “refined.” The 2020 X7 has three engine options. All come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The first is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 335 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. The second is a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 producing 456 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The third is a version of the same V8, which has 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. This engine provides what CARFAX called “sports-car-like acceleration.”

U.S. News & World Report and Consumer Reports both rated the 2020 BMW X7 their fourth pick. The price for the 2020 X7 starts at $73,900.

Which are the best buys?

If cargo space is your main criteria in a luxury SUV, then the 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV is a great choice. Other luxury large SUVs excel in different areas. The 2020 Lincoln Navigator is U.S. News & World Report’s top-rated luxury large SUV.

While the 2020 BMW X7 has an impressive amount of horsepower, some SUVs are even more powerful. One of the highest and powerful SUVs is the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk with 707 hp. If you’re interested in Consumer Reports’ top-rated luxury large SUV, that is the 2020 Buick Enclave.
