The 2020 BMW 7-series is a fabulous and expensive alternative

So, the Lexus LS isn’t cheap by any means; it starts at $75K. But if you can afford to spend $11K more, you might want to seriously consider BMW’s 7-series lineup. Like the LS, the 7-series offers a traditional gas powertrain as well as a hybridized option. What makes the 7-series a compelling choice is that it offers a tranquil riding experience but its performance offerings are far more powerful than what’s available on the LS. 

The entry-level 740i model comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces a 335-horsepower. Other available engine options include the plug-hybrid model as well as a turbocharged 6.6-liter V12 engine that produces a whopping 600-horsepower. And for a super-luxury vehicle, the 7-series has impressive fuel economy ratings.

Audi’s A8 is also a worthy alternative to the Lexus LS.  The A8 is poised and powerful, plus, it provides a sportier driving experience. Standard A8 models are equipped with a 335-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine but the new twin-turbo V8 is something to get really excited about. 

The optional V8 engine found on the S8  models generates a 563-horsepower and makes for a comfortable ride. Another advantage the A8 has over the LS is that its infotainment system is nicer and easier to use. Also, the A8 offers a bit more cabin space. 

Consider the 2020 Chrysler 300 as the wild card option

Recommending the 2020 Chrysler 300 over the LS may sound completely random, and it kind of is. Even so, the Chrysler 300 is a recommended option by Consumer Reports that has higher predicted reliability scores and owner satisfaction ratings. You can basically think of the 300 as the more upscale version of the Dodge Challenger.

Most of the 300’s appeal comes down to its potent engine offerings. Standard 300 models come with a satisfying 292-horsepower 3.2-liter V6 engine and there’s also an available  5.7-liter Hemi V8  that generates a 363-horsepower. By picking the 2020 Chrysler 300 over the LS as a budget-friendly substitute, you can save almost $60K.
