You Should Probably Wait for Your Next New Car Purchase
OK, so you are thinking about buying a new car. But you might want to wait a year or two––possibly even longer. There are some amazing cars coming in the not so distant future that may change your mind about the 2020 model you’ve had your eye on. Car and Driver made us a nice list of coming cars. There are both luxury cars and mainstream vehicles on the list. Here are some upcoming mainstream auto releases that will likely make you want to wait for your next new car purchase.
2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
The coming Chevy Corvette Z06 is a preview of the next C8 Corvettes Chevy plans to roll out over the next few years. Car and Driver reports that it should cost somewhere around $85,000. Additionally, it is meant to rival the Ferrari V-8 in terms of sounds that are a testament to its performance.
2022 Ford Fusion Active
Probably taking notes from the Subaru Outback and its successful sales figures, Ford has decided to pump out some wagons. The 2022 Ford Fusion Active is the evolution of the Fusion sedan, which Ford plans to halt production for. The Fusion Active marks the end of the Ford family sedan, and the dawn of a new Ford station wagon era.
2022 GMC Hummer EV SUT
The famed gas guzzler from General Motors is surprising us all with a plot twist. Though we haven’t seen one since 2010, a new Hummer is coming onto the scene. And it’s all-electric. In fact, it will become its own sub-brand, according to Car and Driver. Although not much has leaked about this upcoming beast, it’s a cool one to consider if you are thinking about buying a new car but you want an electric truck.
Hyundai
The 2023 Hyundai RM20 N might not get that name officially. But it does plan to enter the mid-engine segment and shake things up a bit. As Hyundai has done with other segments in the past, we can expect that this Hyundai sports car will marry dynamic power with an affordable price point. There is the possibility that the RM20 N will roll out as a $70,000 Genesis, but if it is, in fact, a Hyundai it will cost about $40,000. This modern materialization of a Hyundai sports car should be exciting––at the very least.
Hyundai is also releasing a 2021 Hyundai Santa Cruz. The automaker will delve into the pickup truck segment. However, this truck will step in as a unibody truck, much like Honda’s Ridgeline pickup truck.
Jeep
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is set to release as an entirely new Jeep brand daily SUV. Car and Driver reports that all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee will emerge on an Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform that is also found within the Giulia sedan as well as the Stelvio SUV. However, expect the 2022 Grand Cherokee to ride on a much longer wheelbase. It will be nice a roomy. If you are thinking about buying a new car, this SUV is for families who need style, capability, and interior space.
One more family sized future offering from the Jeep brand is a revival of the Jeep Wagoneer. There have also been references to the Grand Wagoneer, so we are expecting to see both make an appearance. The new Jeep is set to compete with other large family SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe and the Ford Expedition. It is based on the Ram 1500’s body-on-frame platform. Plus, it should have an array of engine options including a hybrid and a V8.
2023 Mazda Mazda6
Mazda’s mid-sizer is generally praised for making luxury affordable. The all-new Mazda6 generation will up the luxury appeal and keep the low price. Car and Driver writes that the fresh Mazda6 sedan “is set to get a full Bavarian, transitioning to a longitudinal-engine platform with rear-wheel drive and an inline-six.”
2021 Nissan 400Z
Get ready for the comeback for the much-missed Z-car. Taking the torch from the old-timer 370Z. The code name is the Z35 and Car and Driver speculates that its new name will probably be the Nissan 400Z. That is, of course, because its twin-turbo powerhouse generates up to 400 horsepower in the Infiniti Q50 and Q60. This engine will go into the new Z and there you have it. The new Z-car we’ve been waiting for. If you are buying a new car and you want something sporty and agile, this is one that might be worth waiting for.
2021 Ram Dakota
Due to the rapidly growing and successfully mid-size pickup truck segment, the old Dakota pickup’s revival looms on the horizon. Now, the pickup truck will debut as an all-new Ram pickup. Dodge trucks are a thing of the past. But we don’t think the brand switch will have a negative impact on Dakota sales. The Ram Dakota will share quite a bit of internal structure with the Jeep Gladiator. Additionally, it will come out of the Toledo, Ohio plant alongside its FCA brethren.
Toyotas and a 2022 Subaru BRZ
A 2022 Subaru and Toyota collaboration is coming. The Subaru BRZ and the Toyota 86 joint effort sports cars are set to debut. They won’t differ vastly from the present offerings of these models. However, they will see a bit more engine performance.
There will also be a new Corolla. A 2022 Toyota GR Corolla, in fact. Toyota plans to stamp the GR badge onto this hot-hatch Corolla. Reminiscent of the Corolla XRS from over a decade ago, the GR Corolla might comfort some of the Americans who are miffed about the GR Yaris not coming across the pond. It’s probably the new hatchback performance Corolla will see the same engine as that spunky Yaris from abroad.
One more exciting Toyota on the list is the 2024 MR2. Toyota seems like it’s on a roll will the sports cars lately, so why not throw another one into the mix? We’ve got some BMW in the Supra and the team-up with Subaru for the Toyota 86. Toyota is also planning to revive the MR2. However, the new version will probably have electric power. So, if you are buying a new car and you want an electric sports car from a reliable Japanese automaker, a model liek the 2024 Toyota MR2 could make you wait a bit for your next auto purchase.
