You Want A Ranger Raptor: Ford Gives You the Tremor Instead
Ford is taking a page from GM by continuing to not offer what buyers want but instead what it wants customers to buy. We’re talking about the Ranger Raptor. Since Ford made the Ranger available in 2018 in the US buyers have been requesting a Raptor version. Now it’s 2020 and Ford refuses to make a Ranger Raptor for the US. You may want a Ranger Raptor, but Ford now gives you the Tremor instead. Close, but no cookie.
Yes, Ford does make the Ranger Raptor for Australia so it does exist. Supposedly the reason why it won’t be available here is because it has the turbodiesel engine. It’s a reason, we guess? But until the next Ranger is available some time in 2023 we’ll make due with the Tremor.

You know the Tremor name from the F150. Ford makes a Super Duty Tremor and so they’ll be making Ranger Tremor packages too. Still not a Raptor, but for now as close as Ford chooses to go. So, what will the Ranger Tremor have that’s special? According to Ford Authority, it starts with a trail-ready front end. This is done to increase the approach angle. Tubular running boards, decals, and BF Goodrich all-terrain tires on new-look wheels would be the main features of the package.
What is speculated beyond those changes is some suspension upgrades starting with added ground clearance. The F-Series Tremor gets this so why not Ranger? From there we expect beefy skid plates, a locking rear differential, and maybe extended axle vent tubes. Also, bigger shocks would be an easy and cheap upgrade for Ford to handle. Again, this is all speculation at this point.
Naturally, the Ranger Tremor will come standard with four-wheel-drive.
It is not expected to receive any power increase though it should. So you’ll be looking at the turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. It will be hooked to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Naturally, the Ranger Tremor will come standard with four-wheel-drive.
You’ll be able to order the Tremor package with Lariat or XLT models. The Lariat is $33,665 and XLT sells for $37,695. We don’t know how much the Tremor package will add to those prices as of now. But you can figure that if the F-Series Tremor adds almost $4,000 to the bottom line that the Ranger could be headed for a similar price jump. You can expect to see the Ranger Tremor show up mid-2021 as a 2022 model.
