Car insurance is a must-have for the modern motorist. Granted, as much as 14% of American drivers are uninsured. But that’s not okay. Depending on the policy, car insurance covers your vehicle and injuries. However, and perhaps more importantly, it protects other parties. However, not every provider is among the best car insurance companies.

If you’ve got Liberty Mutual or State Farm, I’m afraid your provider didn’t make the list of the best insurance companies

According to Forbes Advisor, Nationwide might really be on your side. Specifically, Forbes claims that Nationwide is the best overall option among insurance companies. Nationwide offered “some of the cheapest rates for teens and seniors.” Furthermore, Nationwide’s diversity of coverage includes gap insurance, accident forgiveness, and vanishing deductibles.

Other top options among the best insurance companies for 2024 include familiar names like USAA and Geico. The former is the best option for active duty service members and veterans. And the latter may be the best option for drivers with poor credit. On the less nationally popular side, Erie is the best option for drivers who cause a crash

However, that leaves out many other popular car insurance companies. For instance, Liberty Mutual, the “only pay for what you need” provider, doesn’t earn a spot among the top eight options. Furthermore, State Farm, The General, and Farmers Insurance are left out in the cold. Beyond commuter vehicles, classic car owners are better off getting a collector’s car policy from a company like Hagerty.

Still, there is an irrefutable truth about coverage. Some insurance is better than no insurance. It’s your responsibility to carry enough coverage. At the very least, every motorist should have some sort of liability coverage. After all, you’re not alone on the nation’s roads.
