We know that some cars are more heavily thieved than others. I guess it comes down to ease, opportunity, and anonymity. I’m guessing. If you are a car thief, this article is not for you! However, if you own a Hyundai Elantra, this might be something you are interested in. 

How easy is it to get into a car without the Keys? 

This video shows a guy who called a tow truck driver to help him get into his car after locking his keys inside. As Motor1 reports, cars are far more secure today than ever before. But back in the old days of coat hangers and bump starts, just about anyone could open your car and roll out with impunity. These days the tricks are a little more complicated. Of course, this is only cool because the guy locked his keys in his car. Stealing cars is extraordinarily lame. 

 The tow truck guy comes in slick with the airbag and inserts it into the tiny space between the Hyundai’s window gap, and inflates it until there is enough room to slide the other tools in. Once the driver got the gap big enough, he simply poked the locking pin and boom. The door is open.  

How else can you get into your car without the keys?

Motor1 mentions that Apple is rumored to be working on an App because, of course they are. Well, more specifically and accurately, Apple has been working on an entire car to pair with its phones, I guess. I don’t really know. It is still pretty hush-hush. However, they did file a patent that focuses on the communication between a car and a mobile device. 

The patent illustrates that once a device has permission to a car, the user can do things like lock and unlock the doors and even start the engine. This sort of deal might make the days of the tow truck driver coming in and cracking your door open a thing of the past. It may also make the days of rapscallions doing the same and making off with your wheels another thing of the past.

Ok. But what about the Hyundai Elantra? 

Yes, the Elantra seems to be pretty easy to get into if you have the right gear. Don’t worry too much about your Hyundai Elantra, though, because it didn’t crack the top 10 most stolen cars list in America for 2020. 

The list remains fairly consistent from year to year, and even with the proof that Elantras are easy to crack, it doesn’t seem like the baddies are going for them. That honor still resides with the Honda Civic as the reigning champ of hot cars. Some other usual suspects are found on the list as well, like the Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Altima, and strangely even Jeep Cherokees, for some reason. 

A note to Elantra owners:

Rest easy, guys. The facts are most people don’t have the tow truck driver gear. Statistically, people don’t want to steal your car. Lastly, if you ever lock your keys in the car, you know exactly who to call.
