Do you like the way your GMC Sierra 1500 or Yukon looks? Well, that could change. General Motors allowed their design team to run with their wildest ideas after penning slight new looks for these important models. 

GMC Sierra trucks consider wild ideas 

The team of GMC stylists has been busy creating new looks for the GMC Yukon and Sierra 1500, but they have also been exploring how the designs can change in the future. General Motors has posted two futuristic renderings on their official Instagram account with possible ways to move forward. 

Karan Moorjani, General Motors Exterior Designer, the Autonomous and Electric Vehicle Division, created a futuristic truck that ties back to the GMC Sierra 1500. It’s most noticeable feature is a massive front end with a tall grille and thin LED lights. 

The LED light bars and pops of red that include tow hooks certainly draw the eye. You probably either love it or find it to be blinding. The rendering also has sculpted sides and a smaller cab that doesn’t quite fit the powerful ride. But the larger fender flares and tires may suggest that this truck is a serious off-roader. 

The Heavy Duty Sierra Denali rendering 

GMC Strategic Advanced Design Team Member, Joe Boniface, took a more realistic approach by separating the design language away from General Motors’ sister company Chevrolet. In his rendering, The Sierra HD has a huge GMC Sierra Denali branded grille that takes up the majority of space on the front end. 

The massive grille is accompanied by three horizontal LED light bars that sit under thin headlights. This is a totally new look for GMC, but the narrow headlights remind us of Hyundai vehicles. Also, there is less chrome than the current GMC Sierra HD model. But doesn’t more chrome make trucks more futuristic? 

A new GMC Cadillac rendering 

Andrew McMillan, another General Motors Exterior Designer, shared a new sketch for the GMC Cadillac that looks like the most exciting possible new option. It seems like a serious off-roading SUV with massive tires. 

The design incorporates the classic Cadillac grille with new vertical LED headlights on each side. Again, the cab looks a little small but based on this rendering, you would sit pretty high up from the road. It also has an open-top. 

None of these sketches are currently making their way into production. General Motors posts sketches from their designers regularly, but these works aren’t intended for production. This helps designers flex their creative muscle to try new shapes and themes. Also, sometimes the designs are for pure fun. 

The GM Design Instagram was created to share some of the most epic ideas that spawn from the General Motors design team. But they also don’t sketch for the sake of just illustrating. These renderings can give us a peek into the ideas floating around in General Motors designers’ minds. 

This shows us what GMC is thinking about, and the ideas are from the men and women who will actually create the next generation of GMC models. With wild-looking new rides coming soon like the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T, maybe these GMC Sierra sketches will become a reality too.
