Your Toyota Land Cruiser Should Last a Seriously Long Time
Buying a Toyota Land Cruiser is expensive. In fact, the Land Cruiser is the most expensive SUV that Toyota currently has to offer. But how long can you actually expect the Toyota Land Cruiser to last? Well, as it turns out, kind of a while. Because this iconic SUV? It’s made to last for miles upon miles upon miles. (You get the idea.)
The Toyota Land Cruiser is an iconic SUV
The Land Cruiser has been around for a long time. According to Car and Driver, the first model was sold way back in 1958. But it wasn’t until the early 1960’s that the Land Cruiser really made a name for itself. In fact, between 1961 and 1965, the Toyota Land Cruiser was the bestselling Toyota that the brand had to offer in the United States.
As you might have gathered, the Land Cruiser continued to gain popularity over the years. It was even adopted by Lexus as the brand’s luxury-minded Lexus LX450 SUV in 1995. As for the current-generation Land Cruiser? That was introduced in 2008, so not all that long ago.
Nowadays, though, the Land Cruiser is recognized as a premium off-roader. You heard that right, don’t let its shockingly high price tag and polished exterior fool you. The Land Cruiser boasts a tough-as-nails body-on-frame construction, comes stocked with all of the features needed to hit the trails, and can even be had with a long list of premium luxury amenities.
How many miles will the Land Cruiser last?
But as iconic as the Toyota Land Cruiser may be, how long can you actually expect one to last for? After all, this SUV boasts a base price of $85,565 so it better be worth the initial investment. Fortunately, according to this iSee Cars study, the Land Cruiser is made to last for a seriously long time.
In its study, iSee Cars analyzed more than 15.8 million cars sold in 2019. iSee Cars then used that data to determine which models boast the highest percentage of cars that reached 200,000 miles. And, as it turns out, Toyota’s lineup of SUV models are among the longest-lasting vehicles out there, the Toyota Land Cruiser included.
Take a closer look at the numbers and the Land Cruiser is even the longest-lasting vehicle in the study. Of the cars that iSee Cars examined, the Toyota Land Cruiser was most likely to reach 300,000 miles. All in all, iSee Cars says, that means the iconic Land Cruiser is at least twice as likely as average to hit 300,000 miles. That’s pretty impressive.
Is the Land Cruiser discontinued?
There is some bad news, unfortunately. While the Land Cruiser may be the brand’s longest-running nameplate, it will be discontinued in the United States after the 2021 model year. According to MotorTrend, the move likely has to do with the SUV’s lackluster sales over the years. Which, let’s be honest, does make sense. As iconic as the Land Cruiser may be, it is expensive.
But if you do manage to get your hands on one before? Odds are, your Land Cruiser will be on the road for many miles to come.
