You’re Going to Want to Skip the 2021 Kia Sorento for the 2021 Subaru Outback
The Subaru Outback is a bestseller among its segment, and it’s really no wonder why. It’s affordable, capable, and recognized for being a remarkably safe SUV. But does that make the 2021 Subaru Outback a better choice than the 2021 Kia Sorento? We think so.
The 2021 Subaru Outback comes standard with all-wheel drive
If you’re after an SUV that offers year-round capability, then the 2021 Subaru Outback deserves the top spot on your list. This year’s model, much like all Subaru models, comes standard with all-wheel drive. The 2021 Subaru Outback also boasts 8.7 inches of ground clearance and is standard with X-MODE, which maximizes traction on slippery surfaces.
As for the 2021 Kia Sorento? Unfortunately, this year’s model doesn’t come standard with all-wheel drive. While it is available as an option, it will cost you a pretty penny. The Sorento doesn’t offer quite as much ground clearance as the Outback, either. Opt for a front-wheel drive Sorento, and you can expect 6.9 inches of ground clearance. Upgrade to an all-wheel drive model, and this year’s Sorento boasts 8.2-inches of ground clearance.
The IIHS tapped the 2021 Subaru Outback as a Top Safety Pick+
Subaru doesn’t make any compromises when it comes to safety. That’s why all new Subaru models come standard with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. This confidence-inspiring system monitors traffic, intuitively manages cruise control, and helps you stay in your lane. With so many standard safety features to its name, it should come as no surprise that the IIHS recognized this year’s Outback as a Top Safety Pick+.
Of course, the 2021 Kia Sorento also comes stock full of standard safety features as part of Kia Drive Wise Driver Assist Technology. Unfortunately, this selection of standard safety features doesn’t include adaptive cruise control. It’s also worth noting that while the IIHS hasn’t rated this year’s model, last year’s Sorento recognized as a Top Safety Pick, whereas the Subaru Outback has been consistently rated as a Top Safety Pick+.
The 2021 Subaru Outback will have you saving rather than spending
The 2021 Subaru Outback has the edge when it comes to pricing too. This year’s model is available in seven different trim levels, with the base trim priced at $26,795. Step up to the Outback Premium, which adds additional safety features and heated front seats, and you’ll be spending about $29,045. At its most expensive, this year’s model will have you spending roughly $39,945.
The 2021 Kia Sorento, on the other hand, boasts a base price of $29,390. Upgrade to the Sorento S and you’ll be spending approximately $31,890. This year’s model only gets more expensive from there. Treat yourself to a fully-loaded Sorento and you can expect to spend at least $40,590.
Don’t forget to get behind the wheel for a test drive
While the 2021 Subaru Outback may be better than its Kia competition on paper, that’s not to say you shouldn’t test drive both vehicles. So before making your final decision? We recommend taking both the Subaru Outback and the Kia Sorento out for a test drive.
